Types of lashing

ROUND LASHING Round Lashing is used to tie two parallel poles together side by side.

Method of tying Clove Hitch

Method of tying Make rounds and tighten

Method of tying End with Clove h itch

SQUARE LASHING Square Lashing is used to tie two poles together at an angle of 90 º . E.g. To construct a ladder, table or improvised raft. When done properly it will hold together even during the most vigorous of activities.

Method of tying Guide the rope inside of the 1 st spar

Method of tying On the 2 nd spar, guide the rope outside

Method of tying Repeat the inside-outside method for at least 3 rounds

Method of tying Guide the rope horizontally - Frapping

Method of tying Pull as tight as possible, then make another round

Method of tying Frap at least 3 rounds, thin rope requires at least 4-5 rounds

Method of tying Finish the frapping by tying a half hitch and tighten on the pole above

DIAGONAL LASHING The diagonal lashing is used to lash two spars together . Unlike the square lashing which works for right angle crossings, the diagonal lashing secures poles crossing each other at a variety of angles .
