Gardner's syndrome

General information It is also called as familial multiple polyposis it is hereditary condition the responsible gene for this syndrome is chromosome 5

Clinical and radiological features Colonic polyps – these are commonly found in intestine. This polyp has high degree of transformation into a adenocarcinoma Osteoma are most common in frontal bone, mandible, maxilla and sphenoid bone Facial deformity may occur due to presence of osteoma in the mandible Opening of the patient's mouth may be reduced

Radiological features There is presence of unerupted supernumerary teeth in the jaws Osteomas of the mandible are present

Diagnosis Supernumerary teeth with osteoma in the jaws or other part of the body will favour the diagnosis of Gardner's syndrome

Management Prophylactic colectomy – it should be done as there are high degrees of transformation into malignancy Removal of jaw osteoma is done for cosmetic reason
