How much has English changed? 1. Old English Fæder ure þu þe eart on heofonum , si þin nama gehalgod . to becume þin rice, gewurþe ðin willa , on eorðan swa swa on heofonum . urne gedæghwamlican hlaf syle us todæg , and forgyf us ure gyltas , swa swa we forgyfað urum gyltendum . and ne gelæd þu us on costnunge , ac alys us of yfele soþlice . 2. And foryeue to us oure dettis þat is oure synnys as we foryeuen to oure dettouris þat is to men þat han synned in us. And lede us not into temptacion but delyuere us from euyl . 3. Early Modern English Our father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. 4. Late Modern English Our Father in heaven, help us to honour your name. Come and set up your kingdom, so that everyone on earth will obey you, as you are obeyed in heaven. Give us our food for today. Forgive us for doing wrong, as we forgive others. Keep us from being tempted and protect us from evil.
