following aspects of my
project/dissertation:
1.Research Context
2.Project Research
3.Structure and Planning
4.Conclusions and Next Steps Forward
1. Research Context
1. Research Context
•Aims and elements of the project (including a
justification of these) (i.e. research questions)
•e.g. The research project explores the way in which
diasporic communities use the internet about their
former home country. In particular I want to draw out
the way in which diasporic communities are both (i)
consumers (ii) producers of such media and (iii) are
influential back on home nation media and politics.
•Prospective audience/market
•Readers interested in international news, migration,
international politics, social media and technology.
2. Project Research
2. Project Research
•Information gathering strategies
•Using Lexus Nexus and textual archives.
•Interviews with diasporic writers and readers.
•Journals (e.g. New Media and Society) and books
(e.g. Benkler, Wealth of Networks, McQuail, Media
Performance)
•Discussion with academics working in the area
(e.g. IDS/Global Studies)
•Identify suitable video, interviews, background,
e.g. on Google Streetview and then visit.
2. Project Research
•Sources and their contribution/s (including any
potential problems with access, timing etc. and
how to resolve these)
•An independent group of diasporic journalists
based in London (good access, available for
interview)
•Members of diasporic community (M/F, some
difficulty with locating them, journalists above
may help)
•Video work will need overnight stay and travel.
3. Structure and
Planning
3. Structure and
Planning
•Indicative design of the project (e.g. either)
•Three moments explored through feature writing

4. Conclusions and
Next Steps Forward
Conclusions
•The project has been scoped to be
achievable in the time available (approx
5 months).
•Seeks to undertake a research
component and develop journalistic
practice.
•I have considered risks, e.g. difficulty
with access and sought to limit these
problems where possible.
Next steps
•Meeting with supervisor to develop this
plan into workable strategy.
•Start information gathering.
•Create more detailed plan to monitor
progress on the project (e.g. diary).
•Start talking to potential interviewees.
