Subject – Verb Agreement: Rule 1. The verb agrees in number with its subject. Examples: 1.Kelly Mark plays basketball. 2. Motorcycles are expensive. 3. Brix and Mienix buy food in the restaurant. 4. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. 5. He has a good friend. 6. They have so many cars.

Rule 2 . The verb agrees only with its subject and not with the group of words in between the subject and the verb. Examples: 1. The bus, loaded with people, is stalled in the parking lot. 2. One of the Grade 7 Topaz students is Mr. Barlaan . 3. The Tanods in the barangay report the incident.

Rule 3. The prepositional phrase between the subject and the predicate does not affect the number of the subject. Examples: Amparado’s intelligence, as well as her charm, impresses the teachers .

The barangay captain, with his barangay councilors ( kagawad/ Konsehal ) visits the flood victims. Chadrick, together with his classmates, joins the club. The teachers, together with their principal, watch NBA finals.

Rule 4. Some indefinite pronouns are always singular. Others are always plural. Some may be either singular or plural. Singular: each everyone anyone either everybody someone neither no one somebody one nobody

Examples: Neither brings an umbrella. No one is allowed to enter the house. Someone has to stop the corruptions. Nobody admits the crime. Everyone is invited to join the “Fun Run.”

Plural: several few both many Examples: Several have reported for duty. Many come; few remain. Both of them buy shoes

Singular or Plural: some all none any most Example: All of the hope was gone. All of the trees were cut.
