•If your child is planning on eating in the lunchroom (even occasionally)
I encourage you to let them buy their lunch the first week of school.
We will have volunteers to assist the children as they learn the
lunchroom routines, and this will be a good time for them to learn the
routines while we have lots of help!
•Please help your child memorize his or her lunch number!
•Lunch costs $2.75 (for children)and$5.00 (for adults). You may add
money to your child’s lunch account at any time. Please make checks
payable to Forest Oaks Elementary School or FOESand include your
child’s lunch number on the check and envelope or you can pay via
MySchoolBucks.com
•You are welcome to come and eat lunch with us at any time. Be sure
to sign-in with the front office and wait outside the lunchroom for our
class to arrive. You may sit at the visitor’s table with your child to
enjoy lunch. We will not be allowing friends to sit at the table with
you and your child for lunch this year.
•We will let you know the date you are able to eat with your child soon!
•Our lunch time is 10:44-11:14

•Please send a healthy snack and drink every day for
your child (no carbonated drinks or candy).
•Your child will also need a labeledwater bottle daily
(please send one with a spout to avoid spills).
•Please practice opening packages, containers, and juice
boxes at home. We are encouraging independence!
•Please place your child’s snack in a LABELED bag/sack of
your choice SEPARATE from your child’s lunchbox. Part
of their morning routine is putting their snack in the
snack basket. This is often confusing if the snack is
located inside of their lunchbox.

play. Our discovery stations include:
•puppets
•home living
•STEM bins
•building and construction centers

•This summer the Teacher Bill of Rights was passed and
will impact our school community.
•This new law aims to establish a structured and
supportive framework for behavior management in
schools, enhancing both the teaching and learning
environment.

1. School-Wide Behavior Plan:The Teacher Bill of Rights mandates that all schools
implement a comprehensive behavior plan. This plan will outline clear behavior expectations
across all school environments—classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, etc. The goal
is to create a consistent and positive atmosphere that supports effective teaching and
learning.
2. Behavior Management Protocol:Teachers will adhere to a specific protocol when
addressing behavior that does not align with our school’s expectations. This ensures fair
and consistent responses to behavioral issues, focusing on helping students improve.
3. School-Wide Incentives: To encourage positive behavior, our school will introduce
incentives that recognize and reward students who demonstrate good conduct. These
incentives will help motivate students and foster a positive school culture.
4. Support for Behavioral Plans: For students who have a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)
or an Individualized Education Program (IEP) addressing behavioral needs, the new law
stipulates that these plans will be carefully followed and adapted as necessary. We are
committed to ensuring that any strategies outlined in these plans continue to meet the
unique needs of each student.
5. The Importance of Communication:Effective communication with parents and guardians
is crucial for the successful implementation of the new behavior plan. Your partnership and
understanding are vital as we work together to create a supportive and structured
environment for our students.

•Natural consequences when
appropriate
•“Bucket fillers”
•Oops Pad
•Student will be redirected 2
times before signing the Oops
Pad, if I have to redirect
them a 3
rd
time they will sign
their name
•1
st
time is a warning and
student has thinking time
•2
nd
time is loss of hornet on
daily behavior chart
Expectations:
•listen and follow directions the first time
•wait your turn to speak
•listen when others are speaking
•clean up after yourself
•take care of your belongings
•be respectful of others and share/take
turns
•respectfully communicate feelings

Your child will have this Communication
log inside their take-home folder. They
will receive one for each nine weeks.
This is to STAY inside their folder. Do
NOT remove it.
You are to check this DAILY and initial
inside that day’s box.
If your child does not sign the OOPS!
pad, or if your child signs it just once,
your child will receive a stamp over
their Hornet for the day. If your child
signs the OOPS! pad 2 or more times,
they will NOT receive a stamp that day
(aka “they will lose their Hornet”)
If your child does not receive a stamp,
I will write the behavior code inside box
so you know where they struggled (code
is listed at the bottom of the
communication log).

If your child does not receive a stamp
twice in one week (aka “loses a hornet”),
you will receive a phone call from me.
This is now required by law.
This is not to scare you. I will just call
to inform you of what’s been happening
that week, what we are doing in the
classroom to help your child, and what
we can do in the future to prevent
these behaviors from happening.
If you receive your child’s binder and
they have lost their second hornet and
you have not received a call, that might
be because we had a substitute that
day or I am in a meeting after school –
Please give me time to contact you, I
promise I will ASAP!
If your child loses 3 Hornets in ONE
week, we are required to write a
Discipline referral.

RECAP:
If child loses…
1 Hornet in a week:
This will be marked on their chart and
coded and they will have received an in-
class consequence.
2 Hornets in a week:
This will be marked on their chart, they
will receive an in-class consequence, and
you will receive a phone call from the
teacher to discuss the behaviors.
3 Hornets in a week:
The teacher will write a Discipline
Referral and your child will be seen by
administration and they will handle it
accordingly.

Minor Major
Minor offenses are handled
in the classroom, unless
repeated. These include
(but are not limited to):
▪Defiance
▪Disrespect towards adults
or peers
▪Disruptive behaviors
▪Horseplay
▪Inappropriate language
Major offenses will result in an
immediate Discipline referral and
this will be handled by
administration accordingly. These
include:
▪Verbal Aggression
(threat/profanity)
▪Intentional physical aggression
(harming self or others)
▪Destruction of property
▪Stealing
▪Chronic minor infractions

•Please practice and discuss the following topics at home:

•understanding that actions affect others
•opening snack and lunch items by themselves
•following multi-step directions without redirecting
•respecting authority
•gathering all belongings by themselves without reminders
•cleaning up after themselves!
•Anything your child could be doing independently; they
SHOULD be doing independently!

•Fire Drills
•Severe Weather Drills
•The left side of the building is a “Storm Shelter.” In the case of severe
weather, the entire school comes to that side of the building and gets
inside a classroom. We have special window coverings for our classroom
windows.
•Intruder Drill
•We DO have intruder drills and we DO have a long discussion with our class
before we have a drill to prevent them from being scared.
•What we do: stay in classrooms, lock the door, push furniture in front of
the door, turn off all lights, and hide.
•We have a special “code” that only FOES staff knows that will tell us when
a drill is over.
•Other Safety Procedures:
•All classroom doors are locked at all times when students are present.
•Children are NOT allowed to open an outside door for an adult. They MUST
ask their teacher to open the door. (Please talk about this to your child at
home).
•Exterior doors are tinted to prevent people outside to be able to see
inside.

•We will have 2 locations for our lost and found items
•For all items left inside the school, our lost and found is in the
cafeteria.
•If your child tells you they left something at school, please
encourage them to tell me they need to check the lost and found
during our lunch time.
•I cannot, personally, go around and look for every child’s lost item.
I will do my best to remember to have your child check the lost
and found.
•Recess Lost and Found
•We will have a large plastic binset outside by the gym doors (the
left side of the school building) for any items left on the
playground.
•If your child comes home saying they left their water bottle or
jacket at recess, you can come by the school and look through that
bin if you’d like. It will be kept outside and it will have a lid to
keep items covered.

•Chromebooks
•Students will use Chromebooks frequently to
complete their iReady paths
•These will not go home
•iPads
•Students use iPads daily to share their learning on
Seesaw!

•We have a love/hate relationship with headphones
in kindergarten! Please talk to your children about
taking care of their headphones! We will also
discuss this in class!

•We are VERY strict on handwriting because students are learning
foundational skills in kindergarten that will set them up for success in
the future!
•Strong fine motor skills are the key to developing good handwriting!
•When we assess handwriting, we look at both correct letter formation
AND correct line placement. They must master both to be considered
proficient.
•Please let me know if your child is left-handed. If they are
ambidextrous, they will need to choose a dominant hand.

•Any time your child is absent, you need to email their absence excuse
to: [email protected] within 3 days of their absence.
