Module Overview • 3 Lessons: - Lesson 1: Hip-Hop - Lesson 2: Cheerdance - Lesson 3: Exercise Physiology Indicators • Module Goal: - Engage in MVPA through hip-hop and cheerdancing. - Monitor physiological responses during exercise.

Lesson 1 – Hip-Hop Dance • History: Emerged from streets of New York in the 1970s. • Nature: Energetic, freestyle, expressive. • Characteristics: Popping, locking, breaking, improvisation and rhythm. • Benefits: Enhances coordination and cardiovascular endurance.

Basic Cheerdance Movements • High V and Low V Arms • T Motions • Jumps: Toe Touch, Herkie • Tumbling Basics • Cheer Chants

Lesson 3 – Exercise Physiology Indicators • MVPA: Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity • Key Indicators: - Heart Rate - Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) - Pacing • Helps monitor intensity and effort.

Monitoring Your Heart Rate • How to Check Pulse: Neck or wrist • Target Heart Rate Zone: - 60-85% of max HR - Max HR = 220 - Age • Use a stopwatch or fitness tracker

Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) • Scale of 1-10 • 1 = Very Light, 10 = Maximum Effort • Moderate = 4-6 • Vigorous = 7-9

MVPA Benefits and Fitness Goals • Improves cardiovascular health • Builds strength and flexibility • Supports emotional well-being • Recommended: 60 minutes of MVPA most days

Activity Time • Dance session: Hip-Hop + Cheerdance routine • Monitor HR and RPE during and after • Fill in activity log or feedback sheet

Assessment and Reflection • Knowledge check: quiz or worksheet • Self-assessment: RPE + HR log • Reflection questions: - How did you feel after dancing? - Was your heart rate in the target zone?

Summary • Hip-Hop and Cheerdance: expressive, technical, competitive • MVPA: Important for health and fitness • Know your limits: monitor HR and RPE • Engage in regular dance sessions to stay fit and healthy
