1.1 Background of the Research
B ackground of the Research Reading takes very important role in teaching English, especially teaching and learning in the classroom. Subadiyono (2014:1) defined reading refers to understanding written discourse. Students are difficult to understand the content of the reading text the media used by the teacher also affects the students reading comprehension.

Theoritically The theoretical significance from this research is expected able to provide more knowledge about English for the Ninth grade students’ of MTs Al Karimi 1 Tebuwung Dukun Gresik.

Practically There are three practical significances from this research. They are for the students, for the teacher, and for the other researcher. For the students Hopefully this research can make students interested and easier to learn English material that related to reading comprehension. 2. For the teacher, hopefully this research can be useful for teaching students as a fun medium for understanding the lessons. 3. For the other researchers For the other researcher, this research can give the reference for further researcher who will make research related to this research.
1.5 Scope and Limitation of the Research
S cope and Limitation of the Research This research will be conducted for the Ninth grade students at MTs Al Karimi 1 Tebuwung Dukun Gresik at second semester in academic year 2021/2022. This research focuses on using comic strips as media in reading comprehension of the Ninth grade students MTs Al Karimi 1 Tebuwung Dukun Gresik in academic year 2021/2022. This research focuses in reading skill especially in reading comprehension of narrative text.

(2005: 9 ) states that, action research as a constructive enquiry, during which the researcher constructs his or her knowledge of specific issues through plan- ning , acting, evaluating, refining and learning from the experience. 2. (2016:55) states that narrative text is comprehended as a unit whose interpretation and values are given by the composition .

3.1 Research Design

The subject of the research w as conducted in the class IX A that consists of 25 students in the 2021/2022 academic year. The subject taken as a sample is really the subject that contains the most characteristics in the population ( Arikunto , 2013:183). The subjects of the research

4.1 Research Finding
Cycle 1 4.1.1.1. Planning The activities of planning: (1) the researcher designed the lesson plan to guide the teaching learning process. (2) arranged comic strips as the media in teaching narrative text. (3) determined the criteria of success.
Cycle 1 a. Meeting 1 Cycle 1 Held on Wednesday, February 16th, 2022. The teaching learning activity was based on the lessons plan that had been made in planning. Researcher gave the reading multiple Choise question. “The Ugly Duckling” and “Tangkuban Perahu. 4.1.1.2. Acting
Cycle 1 b. Meeting 2 Cycle 1 Held on Thursday, February 17th, 2022. The teaching learning activity was based on the lessons plan of the second meeting in cycle 1. The researcher gave the reading Multiple Choise question. “Timun Mas” and “The Hare and Tortoise”.
Cycle 1 4.1.1.4. Observing Most of the students’ were lacked of vocabulary, made noisy when teaching learning process and did not understand the past verb used in narrative text. The total score percentage of the students activity in the first meeting was 40%. While in the second meeting was 60%. In the first meeting the total score was 1550 and the mean score was 62. In the second meeting the total score was 1820 and the mean score of the students’ was 72,8.
This cycle was improved but still low. Categorized unsuccessful. 4.1.1.3. Reflecting Cycle 1
Cycle 2 4.1.2.1. Planning In the new planning, the researcher prepared vocabulary and comic strips for the media to help the students understand the narrative text.
Cycle 2 a. Meeting 1 Cycle 2 Held on Wednesday, 23 rd February 2022. The researcher gave the vocabulary. The assignment gave by the researcher was groub activity in the form of multiple Choise Question. “Cinderella” and “The Ant and the Dove” 4.1.2.2. Acting
Cycle 2 b. Meeting 2 Cycle 2 Held on Thursday, 24 th , 2022. Give the vocabulary before teaching learning activity. Individual activity with multiple Choise Question. “Malin Kundang” and “Snow White”.
Cycle 2 4.1.2.3. Observing The students’ were more conducive, ask a lot questions and become more active when teaching learning. The students’ active score in the first meeting was 75% and got 85% in the second meeting. The total score of the students was 1770 and the students mean score was 70,8. In the second meeting, the total score of the students was 2100 and the mean score was 84.
most of the students reach the passing grade and score 75 or above 75. On cycle 2 the mean of the students worksheet showed significance improvement from 70,8 to 84. Categorized successful. 4.1.1.3. Reflecting Cycle 2
4.2 Discussions
Discussions In the cycle 1, the students’ reading comprehension was better, but there were many students who unsuccessful in their worksheet and their active score. In cycle 2, teaching reading by using comic strips could reduce the problems faced by the students’. Students who got unsuccessful score in cycle 1 were 12 students. Students who got successful score in cycle 2 were 21 students. The data of the questionnaire represented by the students is most of the students had positive responses toward teaching learning process and students could improve their reading using comic strips.

Using comic strips for the Ninth grade students of MTs Al Karimi 1 Tebuwung Dukun Gresik can improve students reading comprehension of narrative text. Conclusion
