Managers will:
•engage with two fictional team members using video clips,
emails and other collateral
•explore behaviours and find out what happens as a minor
performance event turns into a major performance
challenge. Should I, (the manager) intervene? Would blame
help? What could I (the manager) do?
•practise skills and different approaches (setting expectations,
feedback, coaching, communication) to handle typical
situations. Apply the skills to the real situations ‘I face now’,
and explore how to improve performance and nip problems
in the bud
Managers need to:
•understand how to spot and deal with performance
issues early on before they become a major
challenge
•be able to set great objectives for themselves and
their teams, coach for high performance and use
regular 121s to deliver results in line with your
processes
•have structures, skills and confidence to effectively
question, listen and give feedback all year round
•be capable and confident to build employee
ownership and accountability for performance
