Definition: “The Definition of Panel Discussion is a situation in Which a group of people are gathered to gather to discuss an issue often to provide feedback on something to brainstorm solution to a problem & discuss an issue in front of audience.” or “ A conversation about a specific topic conducted by a group of experts, usually either in the presence of an audience or in a broadcast.” PANEL DISCUSSION

5. 2) Educational Panel discussion: The following three Objectives are achieved by the educational techniques.   To provide the factual information and conceptual knowledge. To give awareness of theories and principles To provide solution of certain problems

6. Guidelines for conducting panel discussion Identify or help participants indentify an issues or topic that involves an important conflict in values and interests. Select panelists who are well informed and have specific points of view regarding the issues or topic. Select a leader or chairperson / moderator of the panel discussion. Decide on the format of the panel discussion. Rehearsal before the actual panel discussion.

7. Procedure of Panel Discussion: The Panel discussions consist of four types of Persons. It means four roles are played in organizing Panel discussion . Instructor

10. Use of Panel discussion: This techniques encourage social learning The higher cognitive and effective objective are achieved. It is used to develop the ability of problem solving and logical thinking. It develop the capacity to respect other’s ideas and feeling and ability of tolerance. It provides the opportunities of assimilation of theam and content

Characteristic of Panel discussion It is used to college and university to level to organize teaching at reflective level It develops the ability of problem solving It provide the opportunity to understand nature problem or theme of the discussion It develops ability of presentation of theme and giving point of view logically It develops the right types of attitude and ability to tolerate anti ideas of others It develops the ability of creative thinking and to criticize theme It develops the manor of putting question and answering question  

12. Limitation of Panel discussion : There are chances to deviate from them at time of discussion, hence the purpose of the panel discussion is not achieved. Some members dominate the discussion and do not provide the opportunity to participate others in discussion. There is possibility to split the group in to two groups for example: for and against the theme it does not maintain the conductive situation of learning. If panelist belong to different group, It may not create appropriate learning situation.

13. Advantages of panel discussion: Different points of views on the subject are presented by experts. The quick exchange of facts, opinions etc. helps develop critical attitude and better judgement Students learn to discuss a topic in conversational form in a small group in front of a large group.

14. Disadvantages of panel discussion Require more time for planning, organizing and presentation. The discussion may be vague and superficial if the panel members lack mastery.
