The different Titles of Jesus

1. THE TITLES OF JESUS

2. LORD Means “sir” or “master” This testifies to the respect and trust of those who approached him for help and healing. In the old testament, the Greek translation, kyrios , was used to translate the Hebrew name name of god, yhwh .

3. Son of god Used to refer to a man of extraordinary power or goodness, like a king or hero. It is used for jesus to indicate his unique relationship with god, a son-and-father relationship that applies exclusively to jesus . States that jesus has not only come from the father but is himself in fact, divine. Jesus is god’s eternal and only begotten son-made-man.

4. prophet Underscores Jesus’ role as one who brings the truth. Jesus is the truth himself. Jesus is the word.

5. priest A PRIEST IS A MEDIATOR BETWEEN GOD AND PEOPLE, A GO-BETWEEN, AND A “PONTIFEX,” OR BRIDGE BUILDER. JESUS IS A PRIEST IN THE SENSE THAT HE GAVE HIMSELF US AS THE PERFECT SACRIFICE TO ATONE FOR OUR SINS. JESUS BROUGHT GOD AND HUMANKIND TOGETHER AGAIN AS GOD’S ADOPTED CHILDREN. IN HIM, GOD CAN SPEAK TO US BECAUSE HE US MAN, AND WE CAN SPEAK TO GOD BECAUSE HE IS GOD.

6. KING JESUS IS KING BECAUSE HE IS DIVINE. HE IS KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS, HE RULES OVER ALL. JESUS TAUGHT US THAT GREATNESS LIES IN SERVING OTHERS.

7. CHRIST THE GREEK TITLE MEANS “ANOINTED ONE,” TRANSLATING THE HEBREW WORD MESSIAH . JESUS IS THE CHRIST, FOR “GOD ANOINTED JESUS OF NAZARETH WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AND POWER.” HE IS THE ONE WHO IS TO COME, THE OBJECT OF THE HOPE OF ISRAEL. AS BAPTIZED CHRISTIANS, WE CARRY CHRIST’S NAME, ANOINTED TO SHARE IN HIS MISSION.
