Slide Content

PREFACE IN this presentation we are going to see about the following points: What is 5 axis machine. Principle of 5 Axis Machine. Importance of 5 axis machine. Advantages of 5 axis. Tools and adaptors Probe Blum

What is 5 axis machining ? 5-axis CNC machining allows the machine to execute complex and critical tasks by engaging all five axes simultaneously, providing the following benefits: Minimized production time; the ability to complete a project in one multidimensional function necessitates less preparation and production time.

5-axis machines rely on a tool that moves in five different directions — X, Y, and Z, as well as A and B, around which the tool rotates. Using a 5-axis CNC machine lets operators approach a part from all directions in a single operation, eliminating the need to manually reposition the workpiece between operations. Principle Of 5 Axis Machine :

IMPORTANCE OF 5 AXIS: A 5-axis machine allows you to work on every surface, apart from the clamping area and the bottom. When working on contoured parts or parts that require machining on several faces, you need several setups of the 3-axis machine to achieve the complex geometry through manual rotating; 5-axis technology completes the job in a single setup, reducing the number of setups and helping you save time.

ADVANTAGES: C0MPLEX DESIGN MACHINING : The additional movement available with 5-axis machining allows you to achieve complex shapes and designs. With the 5-axis machine, you have access to machining angles and arcs that were previously achievable only through multiple setups and a myriad of special fixtures. Ultimately, 5-axis machining eliminates the need to create complex fixtures as you can hold the part once and rotate in a single process to achieve the desired geometry.

Rotational Accuracy Every time you remove a part from a machine, you lose the precise alignment that allows you to achieve superior quality. Unlike 3-axis machining, 5-axis machining improves accuracy by allowing you to complete a task in a single set up, and create multiple and complex shapes without losing the precision required to maintain quality.

Faster Material Removal In 5-axis machining, the cutting tool remains tangential to the cutting surface, allowing for low cycle times, which helps save costs as you remove more material each time the tool passes.

Better Surface Finishes The fourth and fifth axes help you orient and bring the part closer to the cutting tool, allowing you to use a shorter cutting tool, which is less liable to vibration at extremely high cutting speeds, helping you achieve a better surface finish. It also saves you time; when using a 3 axis machine, you must make use of very small cuts to achieve a good surface finish, which leads to longer lead times.

TOOLS AND ADAPTORS

TOOLS USED:

ADAPTORS USED: SHRINK FIT ADAPTOR HYDRAULIC ADAPTOR COLLET ADAPTOR

SHRINK FIT ADAPTORS A shrink fit tool holder is designed to secure cutting tools used in high-speed milling machines. Rather than using a set screw or collet chuck to grip an end mill, the shrink fit variation uses the heating and cooling properties of metal.

COLLET ADAPTORS This collet adapter is a quick and inexpensive way to make a 1/4" collet work with 1/8" shank bits. It works great on the DeWalt 611 that comes with the X-Carve, or on a variety of other routers. It prevents you from having to buy a new collet and collet nut.

PROBE : A CNC touch probe is an option that attaches to your tool and scans and records existing surfaces, so they can then be added to your CAD package to be scaled, modified, and reproduced in the shop.

WHY PROBE IS IMPORTANT? Time is money. Time spent manually setting work piece positions and inspecting finished product is better invested in machining. Renishaw probing systems eliminate the costly machine downtime and component scrapping that is associated with manual setting and inspection.

What can CNC Probes and Tool Setters be used for? 3D Surface Measurement, Inspection & Digitisation. Preset Setting Tool Height Setting, Tool Diameter Cutter Compensation Workpiece Measurement Workpiece Alignment Vice and Workholding Position Identification 3D Surface profiling. CNC Machine Calibration.

PROBING CYCLES

LASER BLUM? Tool measuring probes by BLUM are used for fast and automatic tactile tool setting and tool breakage detection. Specially designed for the harsh conditions in machine tools, the probe systems are an effective solution for improving the accuracy of your workpieces and the productivity of your manufacturing lines.

ADVANTAGES OF BLUM Automatic measurements deliver extreme time savings No errors due to manual tool setting using gauge blocks No typing errors and corresponding subsequent damage Automatic calculation and correction of the tool offset Automatic tool breakage detection between the machining cycles No damage due to undetected tool breakage Enable low-manned operation Realize continuous process chains Quality from the global market leader in laser measuring technology for machine tools

PROGRAMMING CNC programming (Computer Numerical Control Programming) is utilized by manufacturers to create program. instructions from computers to control a machine tool. CNC is highly involved in the manufacturing process and improves automation as well as flexibility

We use hyperMILL software for programming. hyperMILL is a modular and flexible CAM solution for 2.5D(refers to a surface which is a projection of a plane into 3rd dimension ), 3D and 5-axis milling as well as mill turning and machining operations such as high-speed cutting (HSC) and high-performance cutting (HPC), with everything integrated in a single interface.
