AIMS

Learning Goals & Learning Outcomes What I want students to: know and comprehend to identify key details given in the text. analyze , the writer’s purpose of writing the letter. apply the conventions of letter writing in real life context to highlight the social issues. How By the end of the lesson the students will be able to: Know: Make prediction about the given text. Read and comprehend the given text and identify the main idea of the text. Analyze: Infer the meaning of the difficult words given in the text according to the context. Write an argument in agreement or disagreement with the given text. Apply: Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper highlighting the social issue in their locality. Redraft and edit their letters after feedback .

My Lesson KNOW: Objective 1: Make prediction about the given text.   ACTIVITY 1: BRAINSTORMING Assessment: Informal/formative The teacher will brainstorm the students by showing different pictures. She will elicit the main word “Social Issues” and jot down students’ responses on board. The students will be asked to predict about the text to be read. The teacher will ask students to note their predictions for the later stage.

Task 3 Develop activate for your language lessons. Work in groups to develop one activate strategy for your language lesson, incorporating vocabulary building and language skill development.

Task 4 3 mins Design TWO questions. Convert open to closed and closed to open. Prioritize questions. Discuss and plan. Reflect

Analyze: Engage Objective 2: Read and comprehend the given text. ACTIVITY 2: Silent Reading (Skimming and Scanning the text): Instructions and Reading: (10mins) The teacher will ask the students to silently read the text and find the main idea of the text . The teacher will take students’ responses . Then the teacher will ask the students to match the main idea with their predictions . The students will be asked to read again the text to suggest a suitable title for the text . The teacher will jot down students’ responses on the board. ACTIVITY 3: COMPREHENDING TEXT The students will read the text for the 3 rd time to answer the given questions while reading the text. Teacher will take student’ responses and debrief about the task. The teacher will ask few questions from the students for debriefing. She may even make 2 groups.

Analyze: Explain OBJECTIVE: EXPLORE: Write an argument in agreement or disagreement with the given text.   ACTIVITY 4: Round robin strategy will be conducted so that all students participate in the discussion and share idea of argument (agreement/disagreement) with the letter . Students will write the arguments and share in the class.

APPLY Real World Application OBJECTIVE: Write a letter of complaint to the newspaper editor. Students will write a formal letter to the editor of the newspaper and share the concerns. The teacher will ask them to write the letter.

Task 6 Time: 3 mins Design application activity for your lesson and present.

Assessment OBJECTIVE: Write the final draft of the formal letter. After the feedback from the peers and teachers.students will write a formal letter to the editor of the newspaper and share the concerns. (Rubrics will be used to evaluate the work)
