The Six Moral Values are contained in the Ten Commandments of of God. These are the universal truths which guide human actions. These values bind the human person to his or her creator as well as to his or her fellowmen. The Ten Commandments bid or forbid what the human person has to do, what values or good moral habits need to be developed.
1. Love of God In Colossians 3:17 St. Paul reminds us, “ and whatever you do, whether in word or in deed , do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him .” Out of love, God revealed the Moral Law through the Ten Commandments. Out of love God gives every person the strength and inspiration to fulfilo His teachings and commandments. Each one of us has been gifted with the capacity to love.
The creation of the world is characterized by order. Everything falls into place. The design of the world is perfect just like God who is perfect. The human person was beautifully crafted by His own hands. Paradise was the place intended by God for our home. The love of God is indeed evident from the beginning of life until the end. We receive love from Him and we should love from Him and we should also give back this love. One way to show love is by learning His word. Then we need to translate His word into action. With our personal surrender to God, we can spend quality time with with Him daily, serving Him heartily evry moment of our lives.
2. Love of Truth We should always seek the truth. The truth sets us free from wrong beliefs, ideas, and actions. The truth is always derived from ultimate truth, the is, God, one Creator, one supenatural life, then there can only be one truth. As opposed to thruth, lies can have a million of versions. How can we be set free from the many versions of lies? Lies bring about confusion. Thus, only in truth can we be liberated from the mess of misunderstanding and deceit. It is therefore important to cultivate and strengthen our love for the truth.
3. Respect for Life The greatest gift we have ever received from God is life itself. All life is sacred since is is a gift from God. When God gave us breath of life, we are protect this gift with passion. The fifth commandment, “Thou shall not kill,” demands respect and reverence for life. The direct taking of innocent human life is always wrong. Abortion, infanticide, murder, and euthanasia are all offenses against life. Only God is the Lord of life.
4. Respect for Authority Respect for authority is an inherent value in the Ten Commandments of God that is embodied in the Fourth Commandment, “Honor your Father and your Mother”. This Commandment means that obedience is part of God’s Instruction. It is an inherent aspect of the way we were created. Obedience is God’s way to ensure that we learn the right attitudes and proper behavior from our earliest years. Obedience is the willing acceptance of the will of God
According to the commandments of God, giving respect for authority should begin with one’s parent. To honor them means acknowledge openly their worth. To honor your parents demands from you two things - obedience and respect.
5. Respect for Human Sexuality Respect for human sexuality can be understood according to twofold meaning of sex: (1) Procreation (2) Union. Sexuality is for the sake of having children. This is expressly stated in the first chapter of the book of Genesis. Thus any sexual activity that would exclude the possibility of having children is wrong and sinful.
In this regard, Contraceptive practices are deemed immoral. secondly, human sexuality is for the good of the spouses. This is found in the second chapter of the book of Genesis. All sexual activity must build up the mutual rapport of the couple and help them grow in union. Thus, any form of infedility is wrong and sinful.
