FEMALE FASHION 60s fashion is very characteristic and definable There were a variety of sub-cultural trends including Hippies Mod’s (abbrev. Modern chic ) Biba 60s fashion centre based around London , rather than Paris

There was a diversity in fashions for women in the 60s including The flowing, peace loving hippy look of tie dye, paisley and florals The casual teen look of denim jeans The chic urban look of the Mods The androgynous look / unisex look The sexy ‘go-go’ look (right. Nancy Sinatra)

Profile of trends Mod look Based on the London style Example set by Mary Quant’s boutiques London modern chic including mini skirts, shift dresses, go-go boots, space age styles and in general, dramatic looks Make up tended to be dramatic accentuating the eyes

Male Mod Look Popularised by the Beatles / London look

Biba Look aka Dudu Look London based Inspired by 1920s style with Gothic tones, gypsy style and romantic look Dramatic eye makeup and lipsticks Bandanas Large floppy hats

Make up Make up depended largely on the fashion style, eg hippy, Mod, rock The hippy style was naturalistic and used little to no makeup The Mod style used a lot of make up and focused on a dramatic look centred on the eyes. Popular fragrances: Chanel and Avon

NB most 60s TV shows are American and you need to be critical in whether these trends also applied to Australia or not . Examples: Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Get Smart, Partridge Family
