Introduction to Percents
For Example 1: In grade 5, 60 out of 100 Pasig Community School Foundation, Inc. students brought a colored pencil for their art activities. What percent of the total of students who brought colored pencil ? Therefore, 60 can be written as 60%. (__ is replaced with the percent symbol %). 100 Answer: 60% of students brought colored pencils for their activity.
In Mr. Racos’s plant nursery, 86 seedlings sprouted out of 100 seeds planted. What percent of the total seeds germinated?
Practice: Direction : Let’s find out the percentages of each color in the box. This square is divided into small squares. What percent of the total square is red ? What percent of the total square is green? What percent of the total square is yellow?
Activity 2 Direction: Write the percentage of the following. 99 out of 100 marks scored in Math. 52 red boxes out of 100. 66 pencils out of 100 38 out of 100 students went to Amusement park. Half of the 100 visitors are girls.
Remember these: Using percent is a way of representing fraction with denominator of 100. Percents means for every hundred. The symbol used for percent is 1%.
