Design Thinking 1 Ideate in Design Thinking
Mampu menyusun ide- ide kreatif sebagai solusi dalam tahapan Ideate dengan tepat dan detil Capaian Pembelajaran 2
Outline Ideate Ideate Tools 9/14/2022 3
Ideate
Ideate Generate radical design alternatives The goal of ideation is to explore a wide solution space – Both a large quantity and broad diversity of ideas From this pool of ideas you can build prototypes to test with users Design ideation is the process of generating a broad set of ideas on a given topic without judging or evaluating them. When you start thinking of ideas, you want to come up with as many as possible. The aim is to generate lots of ideas, even ones that may seem ridiculous at first. Sometimes your most outrageous idea will turn into a great and unique solution! 5
Ideate = transition from identifying problems to exploring solutions Ideation is leveraged to: Harness the collective perspectives and strengths of your team Step beyond obvious solutions and drive innovation Uncover unexpected areas of exploration Create fluency (volume) and flexibility (variety) in your innovation options Fluctuate between focus and flare How to Ideate 6
Ideate Tools Brainstorm Braindump Brainwrite Brainwalk Challenge Assumptions SCAMPER Mindmap Sketch or Sketchstorm Storyboard Analogies Bodystorm Gamestorming Cheatstorm Crowdstorm Co- Creation Workshops Power of Ten Creative 7
Leverage the collective thinking of the group, by engaging with each other, listening, and building on other ideas Some best practice rules: Set a time limit Start with a problem statement, Point of View, “How Might We” questions, a plan or a goal – and stay focused on the topic Defer judgement or criticism, including non- verbal Encourage weird, wacky, and wild ideas Aim for quantity Build on each others' ideas One conversation at a time Brainstorm 8
Braindump is very similar to Brainstorm, however it’s done individually Some best practice rules: It’s important that each participant does this individually – and silently After reaching the time limit of approximately 3- 10 minutes, each participant will say a few words about his or her ideas and stick them on a board or wall When all team members have presented their ideas, you can select the best ideas, which you can continue to build and elaborate on in other ideation sessions Braindump 9
Brainwrite 10
Brainwalk Brainwalk is similar to Brainwriting Instead of passing around the paper, the participants walk around in the room and Continuously find new “ideation stations” where they can elaborate on other participants’ ideas 11
Identify the assumptions you have about the product you’re building (especially if you’re stuck) Challenge these assumptions Are they fixed because they are crucial aspects or because we have been accustomed to them? Very important step if the empathy stage wasn’t well done and there were many things assumed about the users and their context Challenge Assumptions 12
S ubstitute What can you substitute? What can be used as an alternative to product? C ombine Combine units? Combine concepts? How about a blend? Combine purposes? A dapt What can you adapt as a solution? What could I copy? How can I get? M odify What can I adjust or put more/less emphasis on in my product, service or process? Can I amend the product or service, and its meaning, color, shape etc.? P ut to another use How can I put the thing to other uses? What are the advanced ways to use product or service? E liminate What can I remove from my product or service? Reduce or minimize my cost and concept? R earrange or Reverse Can I exchange elements, design or product? SCAMPER 13
Process through which the participants build a web of relationships Participants write a problem statement or key phrase in the middle of the page Then, they write solutions and ideas that comes to their mind on the very same page Link statements and solutions by curves or lines to its minor or major MindMap 14
Sketch or Sketchstorm A valuable exercise is to express ideas and potential solutions in the form of diagrams and rough sketches instead of merely in words The sketches should be as simple and rough as possible with just enough detail to convey meaning Sketches can assist you in the design process by helping you to think more openly and creatively about your ideas 15
All about developing a visual story relating to the problem, design, or solution which you want to explain or explore Create scenarios consisting of pictures and quotes from users Storyboard 16
Analogies A comparison between two things for instance a comparison of a heart an Allow us to express our idea or to explain complex matters in an understandable and motivating way a pump 17
A technique in which participants physically act out situations they are trying to innovate within Physically acting out processes, scenarios and events helps get the ideation team physically involved instead of theorising about the problems It combines aspects of empathy, brainstorming, and prototyping into one exercise Bodystorm 18
A set of ideation and problem- solving methods that are purposely gamified in order to dramatically increase levels of engagement, energy, and collaboration during group sessions Three main components: Opening – where the situations or conditions of the game and the goal are determined Exploring – during which the game really takes place, developing and evolving the different questions arise from the opening phase Closing – which must serve to cover all the components in the game. It is important to always conclude and close a game Gamestorming 19
Cheatstorm Less about coming up with new ideas and more of an early ideation technique for taking existing pools of ideas and leveraging them as input or stimulus A bit like cognitive sustainability, reusing and not wasting previously ideated material 20
Crowdstorm Successful organizations are constantly searching for new ideas. Historically, organizations have looked to their employees and select partners. They have used techniques like brainstorming to gather and evaluate ideas. However, in today’s market, talent and new ideas can be found everywhere. The internet has enabled organizations to greatly expand their searches far beyond their four walls. Instead of ten or one hundred people, organizations from startups to Fortunate 500 firms can work with thousands or tens of thousands to discover and assess many, many more ideas (as well as prototypes, partners and people). We call this Crowdstorming . 21
Combine a number of Design Thinking methods (empathy research, ideation and prototyping) over the course of a few hours to days or even weeks Usually follow a sequence that includes: Introductions and Icebreakers Vision and Values Exercises Empathy Exercises Insight Mining Challenge Framing Ideation Prototyping Co- Creation Workshops 22
Consider challenges through frames of various magnitudes Consider increasing and decreasing magnitudes of context to reveal connections and insights Powers of ten for insight development – imagine what happens for example when shopping for bubble gum vs. shopping for a TV vs. shopping for a house How does this changes the user behaviour? Powers of ten for ideation Add constraints that alter the magnitude of the solution space (cost of 1 million dollar vs. 1 cent) Power of Ten 23
Help us to not get anchored to an early idea or stream of thought or get caught up in negative thoughts surrounding the process Gives us time to take a step back, reflect, extract ourselves from the traps we've cognitively set for ourselves, and re- approach the challenge with renewed freshness of the mind Creative Pause 24
Tugas Kelompok 4 1. Generate ide-ide besar 2. Satukan ide yang sama , filter dan voting 3. Pemilihan ide 4. Keputusan ide yang akan dikembangkan 5. Kembangkan ide dengan Teknik scamper 6. Membuat Idea Canvas
