5. Bidor, located in southern Perak, Malaysia. 116 km northwest of Kuala
Lumpur.
Bidorstarted as a small village along the BidorRiver in the late 18th
century.
The tin-mining boom in Perak attracted Chinese immigrants, including the
Hoklo(Hokkien-speaking) Chinese from TelukIntan and Hakka/Cantonese
from Kinta Valley and Hulu Selangor.
Bidorplayed a role in the Battle of Kampar during the Japanese advance
toward Kuala Lumpur. It was also connected to Force 136’s operations
during World War II.
In the 1950s, Bidorhosted the GHQ 26th Gurkha Infantry Brigade and
the Royal Artillery’s 95 Independent Field Battery to quell communist
insurgency.
