2. What is a summary? A SUMMARY is a shorter version of a larger text. The aim of the summary is to give the reader an idea of ​​the source text without reading it. A summary should tell the reader the highlights of what they need to know without giving them unnecessary details. It should also include enough details to give a clear and honest picture. Summaries shouldn’t contain personal opinion.

How to summarize a story The text of the SUMMARY should look adequate and understandable to a person who has not read the original text; The size of the SUMMARY should be not more than one third of the size of the original text; Paraphrase sentences! 9. Sample Summary The Invisible Man is a science fiction novel by H. G. Wells. The story centres on a brilliant scientist who discovers the key to invisibility. First of all , Griffin, the Invisible Man, has no shelter and no clothes. So , he has an idea to go to a department store to take shelter, get food and clothes in the shop. When the closing time comes and the doors are shut from outside, he gets up and goes to explore the department store. He finds everything he needs and begins to feel a human again. Next, he spends the rest of the night in the mattress room sleeping there. As he wakes up in the morning, he hears sounds of men coming. Griffin tries to hide behind the counter, however , he is found by the shop workers, who call the police. Meanwhile , Griffin tries to run away followed by the shop workers . He takes off his clothes but fails to take off his vest. At last , he manages to take off the vest and become invisible just before the policemen enter. Eventually , he leaves the store without clothes and with no plans to get them.
