JAG officers have to follow the same unit routine as other officers and have to qualify in annual physical tests. PHYSICAL FITNESS
Competence to undertake the study of a problem to find relevant facts, legal is sues involved and applicable statutory/regulatory provisions. Where needed give available options with requisite evaluation. ANALYTICAL ABILITY
It is not a 10 to 5 or Monday to Friday job. The JAG officer is responsible to discharge his functions and render time bound advice during his tenure of duty. HARD WORK AND PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE

Grant of short service commission to law graduates through Officer’s Training Academy Chennai. DIRECT ADMISSION
Officers with a law degree who are already serving in different arms and services may seek inter arm transfer to JAG Dept. INTER ARM TRANSFER
JAG Dept is one of the smallest cadre in the regular Army. Its total strength is less than 300. ANNUAL INDUCTION Due to the small size of the Department, there is no fixed intake which is based on annual wastage rate. SIZE OF THE DEPT

Full time six days screening schedule. Each candidate is assessed and evaluated by- Interviewing Officer (IO) Group Testing Officer(GTO) & A Psychologist ELABORATE AND COMPREHENSIVE SELECTION PROCESS
Military Service has its own demands and challenges. The induction process has been designed to select requisite candidates, who best meet the laid down criteria .
A candidate who is not selected at the SSB may still do very well in other careers. It is not the end of the world. Don’t feel disappointed or defeated.
DAY 1 – SCREENING DAY A series of two aptitude tests named as OIR ( Officer’s Intelligence rating) tests are conducted. Two booklets consisting of 50 questions each and half an hour is given for each test. Followed by OIR, there is PPDT test (Picture perception and description test). A very hazy picture is shown for 30 seconds and 5 minutes are given to write a story on the picture. crackJAG
PPDT – Picture Perception Description Test A hazy picture is shown on the projector screen for 30 seconds. Candidates must look at the picture carefully and keep in mind the number of characters, their age and mood, items visible in the background. Candidates are given 5 minutes to fill the box, write the action and the story. They are advised to write M for male and F for female and also mention their approximate ages. Mention (+ - o ) for positive, negative and neutral moods of the characters in the picture. Encircle the character that you feel is the main character of the story. In space provided for the action, write what’s happening in the picture. Candidates are divided into groups and taken into rooms and made to sit in a semicircular fashion, everyone has to narrate their story in 1 min. if not then next candidate is asked to continue and after all the candidates have spoken the group discussion starts. crackJAG

PRE- COMMISSION TRAINING Training for 49 weeks at Officers Training Academy, Chennai. Not allowed to marry during training. Not allowed to reside with parents/guardians.
WHILE AT OTA CHENNAI 1.Training at government expense. 2. Stipend of Rs. 21,000/- per month. 3. Awarded PG Diploma in Defence Management and Strategic Studies by University of Madras.
On successful completion of training candidates are commissioned in regular Army as Lieutenant. Tenure of engagement is 10 years under Short Service Commission extendable by a further period of four years.
Grant of Commission by the President of India. Class One gazetted officer. STATUS
Service in JAG’s Department reckons as judicial Service.
