OBJECTIVES -Students must be able to understand the concept of population explosion. -Students must understand of the cause of rapidly increasing human population and how it affects society and the environment.

Population explosion

Population explosion Refers to the rapid increase in the population of an area among human beings. It is a major issue for developing countries. A place is considered to be overpopulated if the existing population in the area can no longer be maintained due to the constant depletion of the non-renewable resources or the natural resources leading to a degradation of the environment.

A population overview: Rapid population growth began in the 1800s when people worked out how to produce more food and control diseases. The UN estimated the world population reached one billion for the first time in 1804. The second billion was reached in 1927 In 1960, only 33 years later, the population had reached three billion In 1999, the population had doubled to six billion And now, in 2023, the population had reached 8 billion

Causes of Population Explosion - High birth rate - Decrease in death rate - Improvement in Public Health - Improvement of medical facilities and eradication of many diseases - Migration - Lack of education and family planning

Effects of population explosion Environmental effects - Natural resources are depleting constantly with the increasing demand and consumption. - An increased level in the air, water and soil pollution - Ecological degradation

Effects of population explosion Socio-economic impact Countries' resources become inadequate to support the needs of a growing population. high unemployment percentages poverty Malnutrition, Starvation and Famine

Effects of population explosion Socio-economic impact Living conditions become increasingly compact and crowded Increased Conflicts Higher risk of Disasters and Pandemics

Possible Solutions to Population Explosion - Provide information and access to reproductive health care, including all types of low cost, safe, effective contraception - Make modern contraception legal, free and available everywhere, even in remote areas - Integrate family planning and safe motherhood programs into primary health care systems

Possible Solutions to Population Explosion - Make population and environmental issues and sex education part of the basic educational curriculum - Universal access to quality education - Use of mass media and online platforms in spreading information about family planning, contraceptives and population

OBJECTIVES -Students must be able to understand the concept of pollution and the other types of pollution. -Students must understand of the cause of pollution and how it affects society and the environment.

Pollution of Air, Water and Land

Pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into the environment. These harmful materials are called pollutants.

DEFINITION OF POLLUTION When Harmful Substances Contaminate the Environment it is Called Pollution. Pollution refers to the very bad condition of environment in terms of quantity and quality

TYPES OF POLLUTION Air Pollution Land Pollution Water Pollution Other type of Pollution Noise Pollution Radio active Pollution

Air pollution

Air pollution is contamination of the indoor or outdoor environment by any chemical, physical or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of the atmosphere.

Cause of Air Pollution Human Causes Motor vehicles Industrial facilities Chemical pollution carbon monoxide Amonia leak Natural Causes Forest fires Volcanic Eruption

Effects of Air Pollution Human Health Animals Plants Whole atmosphere

Water pollution

Water Pollution is the contamination of water sources by substances which make the water unusable for drinking, cooking, cleaning, swimming, and other activities. Pollutants include chemicals, trash, bacteria, and parasites.

DESTRUCTION OF BIODIVERSITY CONTAMINATION OF THE FOOD CHAIN. LACK OF POTABLE WATER. HEALTH PROBLEMS SUCH AS CHOLERA, HEPATITIS A AND DYSENTERY. Effects of Water Pollution

Land pollution

Land pollution refers to the destruction or a decline in quality of the earth's surface as a result of human actions.

Litter waste urbanization construction mining extraction agriculture Chemical waste The Main Causes of Land Pollution.

Soil Pollution Change in climate patterns Environmental impact Effect on human health Contaminate air and water Distraction for tourists Causes harmaful effects to plants and animals Effects of Land Pollution

solutions that can be implemented

"Here are some solutions that can be implemented: 1. "Water Management" 2. Community Engagement 3. Resource Management 4. International Cooperation 5. Public Awareness

Therefore escalating issue of environmental pollution is a global concern that holds a prominent place on the agendas of environmental, political, business, and scientific circles, in parallel with the urgent matter of climate change.
