INTRODUCTION The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) stands as a pivotal player in the public transportation sector of Karnataka, India. With a vast fleet and an extensive network, KSRTC not only connects various parts of the state but also plays a crucial role in the socio-economic development of the region. This study aims to scrutinize the operating Costing of KSRTC and its consequential impact on the corporation's profitability. KSRTC's operational efficiency is a testament to its commitment to serving the transportation needs of millions. However, the financial sustainability of such a large-scale operation hinges on the meticulous management of operating costs. These costs encompass all expenses directly tied to the core activities of KSRTC, including fuel consumption, vehicle maintenance, staff remuneration, and administrative overheads
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Operational costs are the routine costs of running a business. While these vary based upon the type of business, many types of operational costs exit that a business must consider when budgeting. In order to take strategic decision, they have to analyse the operational performance. Some of these operational costs are fixed , meaning that each cost is identical from month to month , such has rent . However, other operational costs are variable and may go up and down from month to month. Such has utilities.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY 1. To analyse the existing means of supervision ,labour ,maintenance, indirect material, fuel ,water and fixed overhead. 2. To provide the details of cost prime activities forming part such service. 3. To provide the information on the cost of service being rendered. 4. To analyse the performance and activities of KSRTC. 5. To help planning for future operation control and making day today operation decision .
METHODOLOGY OF RESEARCH This project will adopt a comprehensive approach, blending both empirical data and theoretical frameworks. It will scrutinize financial statements, operational records, and conduct field studies to gather insights into the cost-profit dynamics at KSRTC. Research methodology of the present study describes the procedure or techniques used to identify, select, process and analyze information about stated topic. Quantitative research methodology is used for the present study .

OUTCOME OF RESEARCH In this study, we will delve into KSRTC's operating costs, aiming to uncover cost optimization strategies. By analyzing different segments (such as routes, maintenance, fuel, and personnel), we can identify areas for improvement. Understanding the variations in costs across these segments will guide targeted efforts to reduce expenses. Ultimately, linking operating costs to revenue and profit will reveal their direct impact on KSRTC's bottom line. This research will provide actionable recommendations to KSRTC management, helping them make informed financial decisions to enhance profitability.
