A Timeline of Television History
1900: The word television was used for the first
time in Paris.
1930s: Black and white broadcasting experiments
were conducted by RCA.
1948: Cable television systems were introduced
in Pennsylvania and Oregon.
1951: The first color TV program was broadcast
by CBS.
1956: The first practical remote control for
television was invented by Robert Adler.
1962: The first satellite (Telstar) used to carry TV
broadcasts was launched by AT & T.
1980s: Video cassette recorder (VCR) became
very popular.
2000s: DVDs became the major player in home
entertainment.
2005: Almost all televisions sold were now flat
LCD and plasma screens.
2006: Blu-ray DVDs were released in the middle
of the year.
2009: TV sets with Internet Widgets built in were
developed by three important multinational
companies.
2010: 3D television sets arrived.
