INTRODUCTION Ratan Tata was born on December 28, 1937 He is an Indian Industrialist, Investor and Philanthropist He was the former chairman of Tata Group (1991-2012) In the year 2000, he was awarded with Padma Bhushan , one of the highest civilian awards in India Under his leadership, he took Tata Group to new heights
Background Mr. Jamsetji Tata founded the Tata Group(1868) Ratan was raised by his grandmother Navajbai . Education- Schooling from Mumbai, Cornell University- B.S in Architecture Harvard University- Advanced Management Program
Career When he came back to India after turning down a job with IBM in 1962, he worked as shop floor manager in Tata steel. In 1971, he was appointed as a director in National Radio and Electronics In 1981, he became chairman of the Tata group but his appointment was heavily criticized because of lack of experience.`

Ratan Tata- Chairman In 1971 Ratan Tata was appointed as a Director-in-charge for The (NELCO) National Radio and Electronics Company limited. In 1981, Ratan Tata was named as the chairman of the Tata industries. Chairman of the Government of India’s Investment commission. Also served as the board of directors for the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) After First 3 to 4 years of struggle, Ratan Tata always focus on two factors of leadership especially technology driven and global competitiveness. As a visionary, strategist, Champion, risk taker, initiator and expertise- he acts a s a leader and out spark the other entrepreneurs in his field.
Achievements Under his leadership one logo was established in the year 1998. In the same year 1918 Tata Indica becomes the India’s first car which was originated and manufactured in India. In the year 2000, Ratan Tata’s organization becomes the first company to acquire the International organization of the Tetly Group, UK Tata started the new venture with the AIG American International Group (AIG) in the year 2001. In the year 2002, Tata Consultancy services Becomes the first company to cross one billion dollars in revenue. In 2004, Tata Motors listed on the New Year stock exchange.
Cont… In the year 2004, Tata Motors Acquire the group South Korea Heavy motors Daewoo Motors and TCS become largest in Indian market in the IPO (Initial Public Offering) sector which raise approximately about 1.2 billion dollars. In year 2005, Tata steel attains the Singapore steel company Natsteel . In year 2006, Tata Sky television services was launched all over the India.
Cont… In 2007, Tata steel becomes the fifth largest producer of the world by attaining the Anglo- Dutch company Corus. In the Year 2008, Tata acquires The Land rover and Jaguar from the biggest motor manufacturing company Ford. Tata started its Tata Teleservices in the name of Tata DOCOMO in the year 2009. In year 2010, Tata start manufacturing the Tata Nano in the Sanand city Of the province Gujarat.
Awards and Honors 2004- Got Honorary Degree from Asian Institute of Technology. 2005- Honorary Doctor of Science by university of Warwick. 2007- Carnegie medal of Philanthropy by Carnegie Endowment for international Peace 2008- Honorary Doctor of Science by Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and in the same year he got Honorary Doctor of Law by University of Cambridge and government awarded him the Padma Vibhushan award( second highest civilian award for exceptional and distinguished services) in the same year. 2010- Leader in leadership award by Yale university. 2012- Honorary degree by University of New South Wales.
