शरीर तत्र शरीरं नाम चेतनाधिष्ठानभूतं पञ्चमहाभूतविकारसमुदायात्मक समयोगवाहि (च. शा .६/४)

शब्दार्थ आहार : पंचमहाभूतात्मके देहे आहार : पांचभौतिकः l विपक्व : पंचधा सम्यग़ गुणान स्वान भिवर्ध येत l ( su.su. ४६/ ५३३) परिणामः The process of digestion(& metabolism) of the ingested food is called as parinaama . भावः – T he factors present in the body are called as bhaava .

आहारपरिणामकरभाव ;- आहारपरिणामकरास्त्विमे भावा भवन्ति । तद्यथा- ऊष्मा, वायुः, क्लेदः, स्नेहः, कालः, समयोगश्चेति ।। cha.sha.६ १४।। Factors which are important for digestion/ Pachan process are known as aaharparinamkar bhav . 1.Pradhan hetu for digestion:- Ushma/Agni• 2.Apradhan hetu for digestion:-Vayu, sneha , kleda , kala and samyog .

आहार परिणामकार भाव के कर्म तत्र तु खल्वेषामूष्मादीनामाहारपरिणामकराणां भावानामिमे कर्मविशेषा भवन्ति । तद्यथा — ऊष्मा पचति , वायुरपकर्षति , क्लेदः शैथिल्यमापादयति , स्नेहो मार्दवंजनयति , कालः पर्याप्तिमभिनिर्वर्तयति , समयोगस्त्वेषांपरिणाम धातु साम्यकरः संपद्यते ।। ch.sha.6\13

USHMA ( पचति ) Ushma/Agni is a pradhan/important bhav/factor which is directly realated for main role in digestion.
• This ushma means (here):-pachakagni/Jatharagni१.
तद्यथा—ऊष्मा पचति-

पाचक पित्त Digestion occurs in the part between amashaya and pakwashaya . In pachak pitta Mahabhut Addhikya - Teja mahabhut . Main Function - digestion. When it contents less water/ drava guna then it digests food properly and due to function like paka ( pachan ) its known as anala ( agni ).

प्राकृत पित्त के कर्म अग्निरेव शरीरे पित्तान्तर्गतःकुपिताकुपितः शुभाशुभानि करोति तद्यथा-पक्तिमपक्तिं ch. Su.12\11 Agni is remains in pitta and does digestion• 1.Pachak pitta is one of the type of pitta prakar .• 2. This pachak pitta at some times is also known as Pachakaagni / Jatharagni / koshtaagni .

मंदाग्नि जन्य व्याधियाँ ( Diseases Due to Weak Digestive Fire ) अतिसार अजीर्ण ग्रहणी अर्श मलावरोध

वायु-अपकर्षति Three types of vayu are important and indirectly helpful for digestion process. Pran vayu Saman vayu Apan vayu

1.Prana vayu:-• अन्नप्रवेशकृत (a.h.su.१२/४) Prana avayu is important for anna-pravesh kriya / Aharana .• 2.Saman Vayu:- Separation of food in sara and kitta part and to propel the kitta towards the colon and rectum. 3.Apan Vayu:- Helps in excretion of waste products.
• If vitiation occurs in three vayu than digestion process also disturbs.

वातज व्याधियाँ (Vataja Vyadhis) और उनके कारण

KLEDA ( शैथिल्य ) • Kledak kapha provides watery content to ingested food This is important to moisten and soften the food. Bodhaka kapha:-
Bodhaka kapha remains in mouth region and helps in understanding the knowledge about the taste. Avalambaka kapha helps in ambukarma which helps in keeping other divisions of kapha in its equilibrium.

दूषित क्लेदजनन्य व्याधियाँ (Diseases Due to Excess Kleda) 1. प्रमेह 2 शोथ 3 श्वेत प्रदर

स्नेह-स्नेहो मार्दवं जनयति स्निग्धमश्नीयात्; स्निग्धं हि भुज्यमानं स्वदते, भुक्तं चानुदीर्णमग्निमुदीरयति, क्षिप्रं जरां गच्छति, वातमनुलोमयति; शरीरमुपचिनोति; दृढीकरोतीन्द्रियाणि; बलाभिवृद्धिमुपजनयति; वर्णप्रसादं चाभिनिर्वर्तयति; तस्मात् स्निग्ध-मश्नीयात् ॥ (C.v 1/ 2 6)

कालः पर्याप्तिमभिनिर्वर्तयति It means, for proper digestion of food 3-6 hours are required depending upon the type of consumed food. Even in the presence of all other factors, digestion requires time for completion. 1.नित्यग 2. आवस्थिक

SAMAYOGA ( धातु साम्य ) समयोगस्त्वेषांपरिणाम धातु साम्यकरः संपद्यते Brings about dathu samya Samayoga is healthy combination of food items While cooking food should follow asta ahara vishesa vidhi aayathanas While taking food should follow ahara vidhi vidhanas .

Role of manas bhav In maintaining ahar parinam kar bha v मात्रायाऽप्यभ्य वहतं पथ्यं चान्नं न जीर्यति । चिंता शोक भय क्रोध दुख शय्या प्रजागरैः ।।(C.v.२/९)

Conclusion अन्नमादानकर्मा तु प्राणः कोष्ठं प्रकर्षति। त त द्वैभिन्नसंघातं स्नेहेन मृदुतां गतम्।।६।। समानेनावधूतोऽग्निरुदर्यः पवनोद्वहः। काले भुक्तं समं सम्यक् पचत्यायुर्विवृद्धये।।७।। एवं रसमलायान्नमाशयस्थमधःस्थितः। पचत्यग्निर्यथा स्थाल्यामोदनायाम्बुतण्डुलम्।।८।। ( C.chi १५)
