Abdominal Aorta Azhar nazir kiani
Abdominal Aorta: The abdominal aorta is the largest artery in the abdominal cavity. It is part of the aorta . The abdominal aorta is a continuation of the thoracic aorta beginning at the level of the T12 vertebrae . It is approximately 13cm long and ends at the level of the L4 vertebra . At L4, the aorta terminates by bifurcating into the right and left common iliac arteries that supply the lower body Azhar nazir kiani

Branches of Abdominal Aorta: Celiac Artery Superior Mesenteric Artery Inferior Mesenteric Artery Common iliac Artery Inferior phrenic arteries Middle suprarenal arteries Renal arteries Gonadal arteries Median sacral artery Lumbar arteries Azhar nazir kiani
Celiac Artery: Celiac artery also known as the celiac trunk . It is the first major branch of the abdominal aorta. It is 1.25 cm in length. There are three main divisions of the celiac artery, and each in turn has its own named branches . Left gastric artery Common hepatic artery Splenic artery Left gastric Artery supplies blood to stomach and esophagus. Common hepatic artery supplies blood to liver , pylorus of the stomach, duodenum and pancreas . Splenic artery supplies blood to spleen. Azhar nazir kiani
Superior Mesenteric Artery: The superior mesenteric artery (SMA) is a major artery of the abdomen. It is usually 1 cm lower than the celiac trunk. It has 5 branches. Inferior Pancreaticoduodenal Artery intestinal arteries ileocolic artery right colic artery middle colic artery Inferior pancreticodudenal Artery supplies blood to head of the pancreas and to the ascending and inferior parts of the duodenum. Intestinal arteries branches to ileum, branches to jejunum. ileocolic artery supplies last part of ileum. Right colic artery to ascending colon. Middle colic artery also supplies blood to colon. Azhar nazir kiani
Inferior Mesenteric Artery: It supplies arterial blood to the organs of the hindgut. It has three branches: left colic artery sigmoid branches superior rectal artery Left colic artery supplies blood to descending colon. Sigmoid branches supplies blood to sigmoid colon. Superior rectal artery supplies Rectus. Azhar nazir kiani
Common iliac Artery: The abdominal aorta divides to form the " common iliac arteries " in the lower abdomen. T hese vessels supply blood to the pelvic organs, gluteal region, and legs . Each common iliac artery descends a short distance and divides into an internal and an external branch . Azhar nazir kiani
Inferior phrenic arteries: The inferior phrenic arteries are two small vessels. These supply blood to the diaphragm. They may arise separately from the front of the aorta, above the celiac artery. Azhar nazir kiani
Middle suprarenal arteries These are the two small vessels. The adrenal glands are supplied by middle suprarenal arteries Azhar nazir kiani
Renal arteries: The renal arteries normally arise off the side of the abdominal aorta, below the superior mesenteric artery . Renal arteries supply the kidneys with blood. Azhar nazir kiani
Gonadal arteries: It is also called testicular artery. It is the branch abdominal aorta that supplies blood to the testes. It is a paired artery , and supply each testis separately. Azhar nazir kiani
Median sacral artery: The median sacral artery ( middle sacral artery ) is a small vessel. Its supplies blood to coccyx, lumbar vertebrae, sacrum. Azhar nazir kiani
Lumbar arteries: The lumbar arteries are arteries located in the lower back or lumbar region. They are usually four in numbers. These supplies blood to Quadratus lumborum. Azhar nazir kiani
