IGNEOUS ROCKS

Short recap!

No.1 What do you call the process of metamorphic rock transformation?

No. 4 What are types of metamorphism?

No. 5 How do metamorphic rocks undergo the process of metamorphism?

No. 2 Give 2 examples of foliated and non-foliated metamorphic rocks.

No. 3 Congratulations, you will receive 50php!

OBJECTIVES: At the end of this lesson, you would be able to: - identify the types of igneous rocks. - compare and contrast igneous rocks based on: a. formation b. texture - explain how igneous rocks are formed. - cite the importance and use of igneous rocks in daily lives.

Pre-Test: What type of rock is formed from the cooling of molten rock at or below the surface of the earth? Igneous rocks c. Sedimentary rocks Metamorphic rocks d. All of the se 2. It is an igneous rock that forms from lava on Earth's surface. What is it? a. Extrusive rock c. Intrusive rocks b. Sedimentary rock d. Minerals

3. Granite is a light-colored igneous rock with grains large enough to be visible with the unaided eye. It is an example of what type of rock? a. Extrusive rock c. Intrusive rocks b. Sedimentary rock d. Minerals 4. This type of textures occur during some volcanic eruptions when the lava is quenched so rapidly that crystallization cannot occur. The result is a natural amorphous glass with few or no crystals. Examples include obsidian and pumice. What texture is being described? a. Glassy or vitreous c. Pegmatitic b. Porphyritic d. Aphanitic

5. How are igneous rocks classified based on their origin? From magma or lava c. Large or small crystals Coarse or fine grains d. Plutonic and volcanic

Activity 1 & 2 ACTIVITY TIME!

PRESENTATION OF OUTPUTS…

IGNEOUS ROCKS -a re rocks form from cooling and solidification of lava a nd magma. -comes from the Latin word ignis which means “fire”.

Extrusive

Intrusive

Igneous rocks have a wide variety of uses. One important use is as stone for buildings and statues. • Diorite used for vases and other decorative artwork. • Granite is used in building construction, kitchen countertops and for statues. • Peridotite is used in jewelry. • Pumice is used as an abrasive. It is also used to smooth wall or scrape up stain around the house. It is also used in textile industry to create “stone - washed” jeans. It is also used in toothpaste when ground up to act as an abrasive material to scrub teeth.

IGNEOUS ROCK                   Direction. C omplete the concept map by supplying the needed information using the terms and phrases related to igneous rocks. Choose your answer from the box below. TRY THIS! -Extrusive -composed of magnesium and iron -Intrusive -lava cools quickly -Large crystal form -composed of aluminum -Magma cools slowly -small or no crystal form -Form from cooling and solidification of lava and magma
