Introduction ‘Genre’ means a type or category of text. Academic genres are structured forms of writing used in scholarly communication. They have specific structures, purposes, and styles. Examples: Essays, Reports, Applications and Research articles.
Continue… Academic genre refers to structured forms of writing serving specific purposes in academic contexts. Each genre has a specific audience, format, and function. Examples: 1. Research Paper – A detailed study presenting original findings or analysis on a topic. 2. Essay – A short piece of writing discussing, explaining, or arguing about a specific idea.
Characterstics Formal tone and objective style – Writing that sounds serious and professional, without personal feelings or casual words. Logical organization (introduction, body, conclusion) – Presenting ideas in a clear order: start with an intro, explain in the body, and end with a conclusion. Use of evidence, references, and data support – Using facts, examples, or research sources to prove your points.
