5. Theory (তত্ত্ব) “Something suggested as a reasonable explanation for facts, a condition, or an event, esp. a systematic or scientific explanation”. (Cambridge Dictionary)

6. Characteristics of Theory A theory leads to a reliable prediction . A theory must be precise in nature . A theory should be comprehensive and would be a curiosity (wonderful) or unique thing. A theory is a scientific and systematic symbolic construction. A theory has a framework to collect, systematize and interrelate facts.

7. Theory is formulated in systematic way. Theory is subjected to verification in initial stages. The propositions in a theory must make distinction between independen t and dependent variables. The propositions contains at least two interrelated concepts. There would be logical explanation in these propositions.

12. Characteristics of Sociological Theory Sociological theory is a set of well-defined social concepts. These concepts are inter-related and have a link with each other. Sociological theory is provisional in character. A Sociological theory is subjected to versification through well-organized methods and techniques. A Sociological theory must be value neutral.
