WHAT IS ACUPRESSURE ITS ORIGIN & DEVELOPMENT PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF ACUPRESSURE THERAPEUTIC USES OF ACUPRESSURE ACUPRESSURE IN ACUTE DISORDERS & EMERGENCY

WHAT IS ACUPRESSURE Acupressure is a alternative therapy which uses moderate to firm pressure on various points on meridians that course throughout the body. Acupressure also involves stretching or acupressure massage Based on acupuncture principle (application of pressure rather than needles) As per the basic principle of the therapy, energy is constantly flowing in the human body along defined pathways known as meridians. Releasing blockages on the points opens the meridians and allows energy to flow. Bringing the body into balance and harmony.

Origin and Development One of the oldest text of Chinese medicine is the  Huang Di , The  Yellow Emperor 's Classic of Internal Medicine, which is at least 2,000 years old. Chinese medicine has developed acupuncture, acupressure, herbal remedies, diet,  exercise,  lifestyle changes, and other remedies as part of its healing methods. The ancient people of Asia discovered that pressing specific points on the body can reduce or eliminate pain — often in locations elsewhere on the body. Chinese doctors began focusing on pressure points as a way to treat pain, fight illnesses, and encourage healing after injuries. Stone probes, found in Chinese tombs and believed to date back thousands of years, are believed by experts to be the first tools used in acupuncture and acupressure. stones were called Bian stones and were used as tools to apply pressure to acupoints. Shiatsu  is a Japanese form of acupressure whose name comes from the Japanese words for “finger” and “pressure.” In addition to putting pressure on acupoints, the shiatsu practitioner may use palm pressure, stretching, kneading, or other manipulative techniques. TAPAS ACUPRESSURE TECHNIQUE (TAT)  Tapas acupressure technique (TAT) is a controversial technique that was invented in 1993 by a licensed acupuncturist and TCM practitioner in California named Tapas Fleming. HYBRID FORMS OF ACUPRESSURE  Some forms of self-administered acupressure consist of combining pressure on acupoints with bending or stretching exercises or yoga poses.

SOME Types of patented acupressure devices Patented Devices Description Acupressure foot board consist of multiple pressure rods extending upwardly and positioned at reflex points within outlines of average foot sizes. Pressure rods are made up of plastic, wood, jade, ocher, or metallic magnetic material. Acupressure device for treating insomnia Device applies pressure to correct the ionic imbalance of the treatment zone to produce calming/soothing effect  Adjustable foot acupressure and pain relief platform Massage grains of pain-relief board provide novel massage and pain relief through stimulating the acupressure points on the soles of feet. Excellent analgesic effect can achieved through it  Spinal acupressure device It is a central fabric panel belt fixed with opposed elastic panels Projections from the belt are positioned to apply pressure to the L1-L4 acupressure points associated with lower spine. Point pressure therapy device Device made up of spherical mounted ball to provide drag across the skin of a patient, rather than roll  Acupressure gloves It provides self-applying acupressure. Interior of glove fitted with nodules positioned over acupoints to provide therapy to hands, wrists and fingers. User can apply direct pressure from exterior of the glove. Roller type hyperthermo radiative mat It helps to enhance effects of the hot compress and acupressure to the user.

RESEARCH BASED ACUPRESSURE POINT AND THEIR EFFECT ON VARIOUS CONDITION Acupressure for women health SP6 point acupressure helps to improve the symptoms of dysmenorrhoea in both spasmodic and congestive types. Continuous use of SP6 point is effective in relieving pain and menstrual distress level resulting from dysmenorrhoea. SP6 and SP8 points acupressure helps to reduce pain severity of dysmenorrhoea up to 2 h after application. KI21 (Youmen) point acupressure more effectively reduces nausea and vomiting occurring in pregnancy. Pericardium 6 (P6) or Neiguan point acupressure relieves morning sickness in pregnant women. Guoshu acupoint pressure therapy is effective on acute mastitis during lactation.

2. Acupressure for men healthcare The Ren Mai (Conception/Directing Vessel – CV/DV) opens on the midline between anus and scrotum in men. Acupressure on these points help to improve men's sexual health. They helps to resolve problems like infertility and impotence. Ren-6 Qihai is a cardinal point for treating impotence, infertility. Bladder (BL) 31 to 34 points are also helps to treat genital disorders in men i.e. impotence and prostatitis.

3. Acupressure for containment of side effects P6 point is well known for controlling nausea, vomiting related to various disease conditions. It helps to improve chemotherapy-induced nausea, vomiting and anxiety. Acupressure helps to decrease Persistent Cancer-Related Fatigue (PCRF) in breast cancer patients. Pericardium meridian point acupressure helps to treat migraine-associated nausea Auricular Acupressure with laser acupuncture plays a significant role in preventing the spasm of jaw muscle and facial paralysis following cancer therapy. Acupressure with magnetic sticker improved the digestive functions and quality of sleep in gastro enteric tumour patients.

Acupressure in acute disorders & EMERGENCY In critical conditions like coma, acupressure helps to resolve the respiratory malfunctions. It is known to elevate the weaning indices of tidal volumes and rapid shallow breathing index in coma patients perusing mechanical ventilation. Acupressure is effective as alternative non-drug therapy in various critical conditions like end-stage renal disease COPD for pulmonary rehabilitation via reduction in dyspnoea and stroke. In haemodialysis patients, acupressure rectifies the pruritus condition. Acupressure decreases the pressure pain in ischaemic heart disease. Additionally, acupressure helps to treat various disease complications like angina pectoris, knee osteoarthritis, distal radial trauma, thirst intensity and chronic headache.
