Rules for adding ing

1. ADDING +ING * If the verb ends in e, drop –e and add – ing : Dance dancing Save saving Live living

2. If a verb ends in – ie , change the – ie to –y and add – ing. Lie lying Die dying

3. If a verb ends in –y , just add – ing , it’s not important if there´s a vowel or consonant before –y. Study studying Play playing

4. If a verb ends in one vowel + one consonant , double the final consonant and add – ing. Chat chatting Beg begging Run running

5. If a verb ends in vowel or consonant add – ing : Go going Walk walking Eat eating

6. Never use state verbs with - ing Never use – ing with sense verbs believe doubt imagine know like love hate prefer realize recognize remember suppose understand want wish understand want appear hear see seem smell sound taste

7. Add – ing to the following verbs Drive * fit Take * swim Care * do Tie * skateboard Try * ski Pray * write Sit * jump
