ADJECTIVE
An adjective is a word used to add something to the
meaning of a noun or a pronoun. For ex.
A good boy, a fast train, many labours, five coins.
We saw a very exciting film last night.
Their house is beautiful.
The grey dog barked.
I heard a French song.
The knife is sharp.
He is a young man.

Types of adjectives
•Adjectives are different types. They are
•Proper adjective
•Adjectives of quality
•Adjective of quantity
•Adjective of number
•Demonstrative adjective
•Distributive adjective
•Interrogative adjective
•Possessive adjective

Proper adjective
•An adjective which is formed from proper nouns is called as
proper adjective.
•Shakespeare is a specific writer.
•The British Prime minister will visit soon.
•The African drums sounded loud in the concert hall.
•Chicken tikka masala is my favourite Indian food.
•Alex is an Australian player.
•I like Chinese food.
•He was a Serbian baseball player.

Adjectives of Quality
•Adjectives that show the kind or quality of a person or a
thing. Eg.
•He is a good boy.
•It is a beautiful flower.
•He is a clever boy.
•Japan is an developed country.
•My boss is an honest person.
•It was a cloudy day.
•Kolkata is a big city.
•They had enough plates.
•Baby ate the whole banana.

Adjectives of Quantity
•An adjective that shows how much of a thing is meant. It
describes the quantity, or idea of a thing. Eg.
•He has little knowledge about this project.
•There is no milk in the glass.
•He gave me some money.
•Mani has already wasted much time.
•There is enough food in the kitchen.
•I have bought some pencils.
•Be quiet or you will wake the whole house!
•Don’t eat too many nuts – you will spoil your appetite.
•He has had many sorrows in this life.

Adjectives of Number
•An adjective of number is an adjective that tells exactly how
many or how much of something there is. It refers things that
can be counted. Eg.
•A 250 liter capacity tank
•Today is the first day of the month.
•Every boy in the class can count to 100.
•There is one piece of pizza left.
•Third place goes to Mary.
•Could you bring me forty paperclips?

Demonstrative adjectives
•Demonstrative adjectives are used to identify or express the
relative position of a noun in time or space. The
demonstrative adjectives are that, those, this and these. For
eg.
•Give me that blue water bottle.
•I want those gorgeous marbles.
•These mangoes are good.
•I cannot forget that incident.
•Those criminals are back in the town.

Distributive adjectives
•Distributive adjectives show that the things or persons are
counted collectively. They refer to members of a group as
individuals. They are each, every, either, neither, any, both
•Either you buy it or you don’t.
•Each girl must bring her own bag.
•Both of them are in the house.
•Can you buy this one?
•Does your father have any money left?

Interrogative adjectives
•An interrogative adjective is a word that modifies a noun by
asking a question. The interrogative adjectives are ‘what’,
‘which’ and ‘whose’.
•Whose book was that?
•Which pen do you like more?
•What book are you buying today?
•Which team scored the higher in the last match?
•Which player did get a fifty yesterday?
•What recipe did you choose to make this dish?
•Which bat is Dhoni’s?

Possessive adjectives
•A possessive adjective sits before a noun or a pronoun to
show who or what owns it. My, your, his, her, our, its, their
and whose are possessive adjectives.
•I am looking for her dog.
•This is our house.
•My mother is a doctor.
•How old is your sister?
•He has broken his arm.
•She is washing her hair.
•I need to clean my teeth.
•What is his name?
•The dog always moves its tall when it sees its owner.

Comparative Adjectives
A comparative adjective is used to compare two
persons, places, things or different.
Add 'er' to most adjectives to compare two nouns.
For ex.
Chennai is bigger than any other city.
A fan is cheaper than an air conditioner.
The pen is mightier than the sword.
Mangoes are not costlier than apples.
Vijay is stronger than Gopal.
Alex is taller than Smith.
