ADMIN BLOCK - The Administrative Block is a well-planned and spacious building that consists of PRINCIPAL ROOM OFFICE ROOM STAFF ROOM RECORDS ROOM WAITING AREA FACULTY ROOMS TOILETS CONFERENCE ROOMS TABLE 1: PLANNING REQUIREMENTS .

RECEPTION - Visitors and students can easily access this place . Provision of two doors , one from the entry vestibule and another from the lobby, can create a passive security layer to the facility. This arrangement passively directs visitors to pass through the office during the off-peak times when students are not arriving or leaving. BASIC WORKSTATION WITH VISITOR SEATING U SHAPED WORKSTATION FOR RECEPTION

WAITING AREAS - Waiting area of a building , is where people sit until the event or appointment for which they are waiting begins. All the offices are connected through this. Waiting areas , having a large sitting space should not disturb the circulation.

PRINCIPAL AND OFFICE ROOMS - Principal and office rooms should have direct access to the staff work area. The office windows should command views of the main entrance and work areas. Provision of space for a small conference table in the office is necessary. Always a second exit should be included for the suite.

RECORD ROOM – Student Records Room Provide a separate, secure, fire resistant area for storage of confidential records. This room shall be 1- hour fire rated and lockable. STAFF ROOM – Staff room is one of the most important, yet often neglected areas in the whole school. When it comes to priority for maintenance and refurbishment, teacher’s offices and staff zones generally fall to the bottom of pile. Staff rooms and faculty offices should be designed in a way that help your staff to perform to the best of their ability.

CONFERENCE ROOM – The Conference is used for formal meeting,   training, and teleconference activities. A special acoustical design including non-rectilinear spaces dictated by acoustical properties. Visitors as well as the principal should be able to access this room easily. Conference requires flexibility, durable finishes to anticipate maximum use, and integrated utility lines  such as voice, data, and power to accommodate a variety of multimedia presentations and tele- and video- conferences. This room generally contains modular furniture that is light and easily rearranged. Movable partitions typically help to further subdivide the space as well as provide added projection surfaces. Conference should be designed for a wide range of interactions, from formal to informal, to inspire creative thinking and engaged experience for participants.

Finishes and Built–In Conferencing Tools : These space types are generally finished with durable materials and surfaces that provide added conferencing and meeting functionality such as marker boards and projection screens. Ambient lighting with dimmable controls and special accent lighting is typically used to allow user control for presentation purposes. Consider energy–efficient lighting fixtures. BASIC LAYOUTS FOR CONFERENCE ROOMS

TOILETS - SNO TYPE OF REQUIREMENT FOR MALE FOR FEMALE 1 WATER CLOSET ONE FOR 25 PERSONS TWO FOR EVERY 25 PERSONS 2 WASH BASINS ONE FOR 25 PERSONS ONE FOR 25 PERSONS 3 URINALS 1 FOR 7- 20 PERSONS -- 4 DRINKING WATER ONE FOR EVERY 100 PERSONS ONE FOR EVERY 100 PERSONS

CORRIDORS – For educational buildings , minimum width of corridor is 1.5 m . LIGHTING AND VENTILATION – Daylighting strategies that potentially reduce the need of artificial lighting are provided. The front walls of the entrance and the common visiting lounge are glazed to receive maximum sunlight. Good lighting is available with vast entrance , giving a pleasing environment within the building. Ventilators and windows in the northern side also provide excellent means of ventilation and lighting. Ventilators are provided near the ceiling , in order to enhance natural ventilation by STACK EFFECT. STACK EFFECT

The capacity of exits , indicating Number of occupants per unit exit width of 50 cm ~ for stairways 25 ~ for ramps 50 ~ doors 75 PROVISION FOR STAIRWAYS – ~ Educational institutions : Stair case width – 2m Raiser height minimum - 0.15m Limited 12 per flight . Tread – minimum 0.30 m Handrails minimum height of 0.9 m from the centre of the tread . No combustible material shall be used for decoration /wall panelling in staircase Interior staircases shall be constructed as self contained unit with atleast one side adjacent to an external wall and shall be completely enclosed STAIRCASES -

FUNCTIONAL PLANNING - Includes various factors to be considered such as orientation of the building according to its location , ventilation, lighting, and space planning with proper circulation space, and ensuring linkage between rooms. Planning is done giving due consideration to fulfill all the requirements of the administrative block, and simultaneously making it user friendly. Harmony with the climatic conditions of the location. Path of the Sun is traced and also the wind direction is identified to adjust internal layout so that the rooms can be planned accordingly. INTERNAL SPACE AND CIRCULATION SPACE - An office building incorporates a number of space types to meet the needs of staff and visitors, which includes offices, visitor support spaces, administrative support spaces, operational and maintenance spaces The function of each space, movement of people to and from the space, i.e. passages, and proper location of entries and exits are established. Preparation of furniture layouts foreach space is an effective process for achieving this

COMPONENTS OF THE CAMPUS ACADEMIC COMPLEX STUDENT’S HOSTEL EXECUTIVE HOSTELS FACULTY AND STAFF HOUSING

CAMPUS LAYOUT The planning is based on the concept of main spine and a secondary spine. The original proposed entrance off the Delhi-Jaipur highway, was to lead on to a junction with the main spine and then further with the secondary spine. The academic block would have been the focus of attention formal entrance had been retained. Presently, there are two entrances, one is from the Mehrauli- Gurgaon road while the other one is from the road connecting the Delhi-Jaipur highway with the Mehrauli-Gurgaon road. The students hostel wings and the academic complex lie on the main spine. On the secondary spine lie the chairman’s residence, the staff and faculty residences, the ancillary block and the club facilities. Building blocks are scattered all over the site, resulting in large distances. Campus has different zones allocated to academic, residential or recreational functions. 1.ADIMN. PLANNING … ACADEMIC COMPLEX The academic complex comprises of the following: Administration Faculty Library Auditorium Lecture block All blocks are double storeyed and have the concerned department housed in one whole unit The academic block has been designed around a system of courtyards. A large central court leads into smaller internal courts, which are in turn, encompassed by academic and administrative functions. Singly loaded corridors, which are arcaded and detached from the building, run along these courts. The corridors are 6’0” wide and are separated from the working unit at places by a level difference. The arcaded corridors form interesting circulation areas by framing views and causing flay of light and shade. The academic and the hostel blocks are connected by any covered pedestrian link. A paved pathway connects the blocks LAYOUT PLAN OF ACADEMIC COMPLEX VIEW OF INTERNAL COURT ARCADED PATHWAY LINK IN ADMN. BLOCK

FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION The administration block is located centrally with respect to other buildings in the academic complex. The block has two entry points to provide through circulation linking in to the library with the help of a pedestrian link.
