Sewage disposal system for housing colony, small and medium sized project, for smaller, bigger towns and in rural areas.
Introduction: What is Sewage Disposal System? The system of collecting sewage water and pre – treating it, and then releasing it or disposing it in a safe way is called the sewage disposal system. The wastewater along with solids is collected from houses and industrial areas. That waste is then separated into liquids and solids and treated further sometimes three to four times before the effluent collected in this process is safely released into the environment.
Disposal of Sewage on Land- To dispose-of the sewage in land it must be treated. As untreated wastewater could harm the soil and land more. It could also harm the living organisms in the area. The disposal can be done in the form of- 1.Sewage Farming- In a controlled manner the treated effluent is released on the surface or just below the surface to benefit the crops with fertilizing elements like nitrogen, phosphate, potash etc. 2.Overland Flow- This method is used in areas where the land is impermeable. A thin layer of grass is planted, and water is discharged in a controlled manner on a slope of 2 to 8 %. 3.Rapid Infiltration - In this method the treated water is spread in a basin and allowed to percolate down to the groundwater. This is effective in areas which have highly permeable soil.
Sewage Disposal System in Housing Colonies - 1. Primary Treatment: Sewage Pumping Stations,If the terrain requires, sewage is pumped from lower to higher elevations to ensure a smooth flow to the treatment plant. Screening. 2 .Secondary Treatment: Primary Sedimentation Tanks: Organic matter settles as sludge, which is removed and treated separately. Activated Sludge Process: Aerated tanks where bacteria digest organic matter. 3.Tertiary Treatment : Filtration: Removal of remaining suspended solids using sand filters or membranes. Disinfection: Using chlorine, UV light, or ozone to kill pathogenic microorganisms.

Sewage Disposal System in Rural Areas - Commonly Used Systems- 1.Septic Tank- S eptic tank is an underwater sedimentation tank used for waste water treatment through the process of biological decomposition and drainage. It makes use of natural processes & proven technology to treat wastewater from household plumbing produced by bathrooms, kitchen drains, and laundry. 2.Biofilm Process- Biofilm formation is a complicated multistep process involving cell attachment to solid surface, cell-to-cell adhesion[sticking], and dispersal[spreading]. Their resistance to toxic shocks and retention of slow-growing microorganisms make biofilms advantageous wastewater treatment strategies, achieving efficient removal of a variety of contaminants
