A VOCATIONAL TRAINING AT GUJARAT ENERGY TRANSMISSION CORPORATION LTD 220KV SUBSTATION KARAMSAD-ANAND Name : Padhiyar Hitesh Ajitsinh Branch : Electrical Engineering (B.E) Government Engineering College, Bharuch

INTRODUCTION Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) was established in May 1999 under the Companies Act, 1956, as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) to support the liberalization and restructuring of the power sector. GETCO functions as the state transmission utility in Gujarat, India, responsible for transmitting electricity from generating stations to various substations and distribution companies within the state. The 220kV GETCO Substation in Karamsad is a key part of Gujarat's electrical infrastructure, playing a crucial role in the transmission and distribution of electricity across the region. It is equipped with advanced technology to monitor and manage electrical loads, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply to both urban and rural areas. The substation includes high-voltage equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, isolators, lightning arrestors, current transformers, potential transformers, busbars, and protective relays. These components help maintain the power grid's integrity and safety by managing voltage levels and minimizing transmission losses, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency of the electrical network. The GETCO Substation is essential for Gujarat's energy infrastructure, supporting the state's economic growth and development.
THE WORKING OF 220KV SUBSTATON: A single line diagram of a 220/132 kV substation illustrates its major equipment and connections. This substation steps down voltage from 220 kV to 132 kV, and further to 66 kV using transformers. It connects to the transmission grid via eleven 220 kV feeders and has several outgoing feeders for distribution. Key components include incoming power lines, circuit breakers for isolation and protection from faults, isolators for maintenance disconnection, busbars as main conductors, instrument transformers for safe voltage and current measurements, and power transformers for stepping down voltage. Outgoing feeders distribute power to various systems. THE WORKING OF 66KV SUBSTATON: The 66 kV incoming feeder connects to the 66 kV bus, which has breakers to isolate sections for maintenance or repairs. Transformers step down the voltage from 66 kV to 11 kV, and the 11 kV bus supplies power to various feeders. Breakers on the 11 kV bus can also isolate sections for maintenance or repairs, and isolators disconnect individual feeders from the 11 kV bus.

CONCLUSION My two-week industrial attachment with GETCO LTD was an enriching experience that provided valuable insights into real industrial working conditions and practices. I focused on power distribution and equipment efficiency, gaining knowledge not only through direct involvement in the substation but also through interactions with employees, supervisors, and other professionals. This training has met my objectives and boosted my confidence to work in a similar industrial environment.
