Aedes albopictus It is called “Asian Tiger” because of its Black and white striped legs Small black and white body A distinctive single white stripe runs the length of the back However, it can still be confused with other Aedes species such as Ae. pseudoalbopictus and Ae. scutellaris Ae. albopictus Ae. scutellaris

Presence and Activity Ae. albopictus is active the whole-year round in warm humid climates. Originally from tropical and sub-tropical regions, it can also adapt itself to live in cooler regions. It is considered as one of the “World’s Worst I nvasive Species” by the Global Invasive Species Database. One cause of the mosquito’s wide area of invasion was due to the international tire trade which transported dormant mosquito eggs. The mosquito is able to survive in a wide range of habitats including cold mountainous areas. It bites from dawn to dusk.
