INTRODUCTION Education is a systematic process through which a child or an adult acquires knowledge , experience , skill and sound attitude . It makes an individual civilized, refined, cultured and educated.

MEANING OF EDUCATION derived from two Latin words Educare (Educere) - to train or mould. “ Educatum ” - act of teaching In Hindi, the term “ Siksha ” derived from Sanskrit word Shash- to discipline, to control, to order, to direct, to rule etc. Education in the traditional sense means controlling or disciplining the behaviour of an individual.

DEFINITION OF EDUCATION “Education is a process for training of hand, head, and heart. It is all round drawing the best in child’s to man’s body, mind and soul”. - M.K.Gandhi “Education is the manifestation of divine perfection already existing in man”. - Vivekananda

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION Philosophy of education may be define as Application of fundamental principle of philosophy of life to the work of education .philosophy of education offer a definite set of principles and establishes a definite set of aims and objectives. It offers criteria for intelligent interpretation of educational end and means.

Philosophy and aims of education Aims of education are determined by aim of life or philosophy of life. Philosophy formulates the ends of life , and education offers suggestions how these ends are to be achieved . Aims of education change with the changing philosophy of life.

Philosophy and curriculum Philosophy determines the aims of education and curriculum determines how these aims can be attained . The curriculum is the means to attain aims of education. Curriculum is to be determined by the educational objectives which are again determined by philosophy.

Philosophy and text books The text books constitute the part of curriculum. The adoption of appropriate textbooks is, therefore closely connected with philosophy. Philosophy is reflected in the content material of text-books.

Philosophy and methods of teaching Method of teaching is procedure or art use by teacher in the communication of knowledge to the students and realized aims of education. aims of education are subject to the philosophy of life. therefore, that close relationship between philosophy and methodology of teaching. Every philosopher formulates his own methods of teaching, according to his own philosophy.

Philosophy and discipline - The nature or type of discipline is always determined by the philosophy. Naturalism emphasizes self-assertion of the individual, as against blind obedience to authority. The Idealism relies much on the personality of the teacher for the maintenance of discipline.

Philosophy and evaluation Evaluation is the continuous process of measuring the educational achievements in the light of educational aims already determined. Educational aims are determined by philosophy of life. For effective evaluation need clear knowledge of educational aims and definite educational objectives.

PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING EDUCATION based CRISTIAN philosophy According to it ‘’ god is creator and provider of man and the universe . The maxims of CRISTIAN philosophy are ‘love of god ‘and love the neighbour. man was created by god as unit for purpose of serving him in heaven.

So changes has also take place in the field of nursing education also it is not advisable to adhere to only one type of philosophy so , the nursing also is following the path of eclecticism to draw the best and useful aspect from various educational philosophies and make one’s own philosophy.

Nursing is a service to individual , people or community without any distinction between cast, creed, sex, color, rich, poor, age or religion hence nursing is concerned with a philosophical outlook i.e. the individual has intrinsic value and there is worth inherent in human life.

Cont…… Nursing requires critical thinking, logic, and judgment, it is a problem solving and decision-making process The learning experience should equip the learner with skills in problem solving, decision- making and critical thinking. Nursing action are based on scientific principles and nursing curriculum should include physical science , biological , anatomy , physiology, microbiology and other relevant subject.

The philosophy is developed by each faculty of individual school of nursing together with nurse leaders and nurse administrators.
