What actually happened at devaki’s home Devaki called Alavandar to her husband at the cemetery road on 28 August 1952. There the couple murdered Alavandar , cut his head off and buried it at Royapuram beach in Chennai. They put the body in a trunk and left it in the Indo-Ceylon Express. Then they left C hennai to Bombay.
EVIDENCES The police piled up more evidence- Devaki’s blood-stained saree , which matched Alavandar’s b lood-type, blood found in the house, a s blood-stained palm print on the wall, which is matched Prabhakara’s palm and Alavandar’s blood.
The final verdict After much deliberation, the jury ( a system that prevailed then) found the defendants, Devaki’s and Prabhakar , guilty of Culpable Homicide. On 13 August 1953 , Justice AS Panchapakesa Iyer awarded a seven-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to Prabhakar for Culpable Homicide and sentenced Devaki to three years in Prison.
