ALCOHOL is a type of chemical compound characterized by the presence of a hydroxyl (-OH) functional group attached to a carbon atom. The most common type is called ethanol.

ALCOHOL The most common type is called ethanol. It's made when yeast ferments sugars or through chemical processes. People drink alcohol for fun, but too much can make you feel relaxed, less in control, and can mess with your ability to move and think clearly.

There are 3 common alcohol types.

ETHANOL is the type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages. It's what makes you feel tipsy or drunk when you drink too much. It's also used in some medications, hand sanitizers, and as a fuel.

METHANOL also known as wood alcohol, is a type of alcohol that's toxic to humans. It can cause blindness or death if ingested. Methanol is used as a solvent, antifreeze, and fuel, but it's not safe for consumption.

ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL also called rubbing alcohol, is commonly used as a disinfectant, cleaning agent, and solvent. It's not safe for drinking and can be harmful if ingested.
