Alex Witherspoon was born in Clarksville, TN December 29, 1986. His rap career started
in Lincoln Holmes projects alongside Cousin Devin Wylie (Mac Greasy) at the age seven. He
was then known as Lil A and his first song was called ‘Jenine’, where he vented about his second
grade crush alongside Mac Greasy. His passion for music grew more as he grew up and
continued to see more of the struggle and wanted an outlet and source to express his feelings.
Being that the name Lil A was so simple his grandmother Wanda Jackson gave him the name
Alleykat as a nickname, due to his sneakiness and street ways at that time in his life. Alleykat
began free styling at local night clubs and started being labeled as the freestyle king. He started
to showcase his talent throughout Clarksville battling other local artist and soon extended his
buzz in the city. By the age of fifteen, the name Alleykat had stuck and he dropped his first
album called ‘Dirty Alley’, which represented every young hustler on the Southside of
Clarksville, TN mainly targeting the neighborhood where he grew up Main Street. Soon he
collaborated with his two cousins Main Boi Xa and Mac Greasy along with other local artists
from the North side of Clarksville to form a group called The Project Boyz. Soon they founded a
label called TLE (The Line Entertainment) and were very successful throughout their high
school years. They dropped their joint album ‘Real Recognize Real’, and after high school
choose to split up, the reason being growth, and maturity into their own. Alleykat soon began
working on his solo project titled ‘Greater Later’, which showed the more mature, versatile side
of him. He soon however stopped doing music and called it his early retirement. Life had taken a
toile on him and at age nineteen with the birth of his first born son he choose to put his music
and dreams on the back burner.
Years passed and Alleykat choose to join the military and now understood that life had
no limits. Outside of Clarksville there were so many new opportunities for him. With his music
career now taking back off, he tries to stress to younger artists who live this lifestyle that they
can prevail as well. Alleykat is not only a rap artist, but also a ghost writer, and singer as well.
The passing of his grandmother was the ultimate wake up call for him. She died at the age of
fifty-six and he felt as though she hadn’t fully lived out her dreams, and she would definitely
want him to live out his. She blessed him with being his grandmother and continues to show him
visions and dreams to be successful. Alleykat stated that “Every day I wake up and I pick up a
microphone I do it for her. And remember its Nu days, Nu ways and most importantly Nu
Money. There is no more stopping my new label Nu Money Entertainment, it’s a movement.”
