What is Alluvial Soil ?
Alluvial Soil
It is rich in potash, phosphoric acid and lime, making it suitable for growing rice, wheat, sugarcane and other cereal and pulse crops.
Due to its high fertility, areas having this soil are intensively cultivated and densely populated.
Alluvial soil is a loose soil or sediments created by precipitation erosion.
It is the most widely spread and important soil.
They are formed by deposition of materials or sediments (alluvium) brought in down by rivers that consist of silt, sand, clay, etc… ,that spreads across the river plains.
These are deposited by three important Himalayan river systems – the Indus, the
Ganga and the Brahmaputra.

Classification of Alluvial Soil(on the basis of their age)
It is found nearer to the river(mainly in the northern plains) have smaller particles and a fine texture.
Khadar soil has much finer particles and is more fertile than the Bangar.
It is found further away from the river (in the river valleys)are coarser and contain more pieces of rock material called Kanker.
Bangar soil has much higher concentration of kanker nodules than the Khadar.

02 Alluvial Soil In Different Areas
Alluvial Soil In Different Areas The particles of alluvial soil are coarser and much bigger in the upper reaches of the river and becomes finer after depositing heavy coarse particles as the river flows down. In the drier areas are more alkaline and can be productive after proper treatment and irrigation .

04 Areas Which are Prevalent In Alluvial Soil
Alluvial soil are prevalent in: Northern Plains ( by the Indus , the Ganga and the Brahmaputra rivers) Parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan (including Rann of Kucth ) Eastern coastal plains in the deltas of the peninsular rivers ( mainly the deltas of the Mahanadi, the Godavari, the Krishna and the Kaveri rivers .). Northern Plains includes: Punjab Bihar Haryana West Bengal Delhi Assam Himachal Pradesh Uttar Pradesh Eastern coastal plains includes: Tamil Nadu Andhra Pradesh Odisha
