Amphitheatre
Amphitheatre Design details : Selection of site is a critical point- topographical, meteorological and acoustical properties should be taken into consideration. Slope of seating should not be less than 12 degrees, for better audibility n visibility. Noise level should not exceed 40 to 50 decibel. Seating arrangement speaker Sound reflection. An outdoor theater with a semi-circular, fan-shaped, or elongated auditorium facing a grass, masonry, or wooden stage. While there are a number of factors that go into determining the stage height, including types of performances, seated or standing audience, venue shape and size, here are some rules of thumb for determining stage height: Up to 100 spectators – 8” to 16” high 100 to 300 spectators – 16” to 24” high 300 to 500 spectators – 24” to 32” high.

INDIAN STANDARD CODE Of PRACTICE FOR ACOUSTICAL DESIGN OF AUDITORIUMS AND CONFERENCE HALLS Stage Used for Speech and/or drama - The clarity of speech is most important in this case. Optimum clarity depends on: a) correct reverberation time, b) absence of echo, c) correct loudness level at all parts of the hall, and d) low background noise. Precaution should be taken while designing Prevailing noise conditions should not exceed 45 dB on 'A' scale. Wind velocities naturally experienced at site should not exceed 16 km/h. Back stage wall should be made reflective and broken into convex shaped surface. Overall shape should be flat in plan; however, if it is desired to be concave , it should be broken into convex surfaces which in either case should be of at least 90 to 180 cm width. If direction of wind generally remains the same, the auditorium should be so located that wind direction is towards the audience from the stage. In case the number of audience exceeds 600 or back ground noise is more than 45 to 50 DB . The loudspeaker system should be so designed that it is capable of providing an average level up to 80 dB over the entire listening area. Absorbent material should be distributed evenly over the wall surfaces of the stage.
