Unit 01 (Lecture No.1 ) Analysis of Trusses Perfect Truss or Stable Truss truss which satisfy this eq. m =2j – 3 Imperfect Truss or Unstable Truss: Deficient Truss ( m < 2j-3) Redundant Truss ( m > 2j-3)
Perfect Truss Imperfect / Deficient Truss Imperfect / Redundant Truss truss which satisfy this eq. m =2j – 3 m = 9, j = 6, 9 = 2 X 6 – 3 9 = 9 ( Perfect Truss) truss which not satisfy this eq. m = 2j – 3 m = 8, j = 6, 8 = 2 X 6 – 3 8 < 9 (I mperfect / Deficient Truss ) truss which not satisfy this eq. m =2j – 3 m = 10, j = 6, 10 = 2 X 6 – 3 10 > 9 ( Imperfect / Redundant Truss )
Procedure to analysis of Redundant frame Using Energy Method(Unit Load method): Consider any member in the truss as a redundant. Remove the redundant member and calculate the force developed in each member due to external loads. Remove the load and applying a unit load in the direction of redundant force. Calculate forces in each member (K Forces) due to unit load. Tabulate the result. Sr No Member P K L A PKL/A K²L/A 1 Σ PKL/A Σ K²L/A
Find Σ PKL/A (Considering with Sign ) Find Σ K²L/A (Considering with Sign ) Find the correcting factor X X Then final forces in the member of redundant is equal to = P+ K X
