ANDREA HERNANDEZ
A GLIMPSE OF ME
My name is Andrea Hernandez, and I'm excited to have this opportunity to share a bit
about myself with you all. I'd like to start by sharing a fun fact about myself.
When I was younger, I had a collection of snow globes from all the wonderful places I
was fortunate enough to visit. Each was like a miniature world, filled with memories. With
every shake, the snow inside would whirl into chaos before settling, making the serene
view that much more special to await.
I like to think of each chapter of my life as its own snow globe. Amidst the storms of
change, tough choices, and hardships, there's a captivating beauty in watching it all
simmer and come together. And after the snow swirling around begins to calm down,
you see me in a new light. Where I stand tall, resilient, and insightful.
The Savannah College of Art & Design Commencement 2023
THE VERY BEGINNING
Born in Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela, and raised in Florida, USA, I now call Madrid, Spain, my home.
When my family moved to the United States in 2008, we embarked on a journey of learning
and adaptation while holding onto our Venezuelan roots
Growing up, I frequently found myself at the crossroads of different cultures, trying to
balance the many aspects of my heritage. The clash of two distinct lifestyles, traditions, and
ways of thinking was a daily challenge
As I grew older, I began to embrace my insecurities and find confidence in my unique hybrid
identity
I learned to adapt to both the similarities and differences between Venezuelan and
American cultures, finding common ground while celebrating diversity
Together, the four of us navigated this journey, and I found comfort in knowing I wasn't alone
This experience has shaped who I am today, giving me the strength and perspective to
embrace my multifaceted identity
Connecting with new cultures is now second nature to me; my mind is more open, and I have
slowly grown to find ways to showcase the richness of my diverse background

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Creativity fuels my vision, while my family and friends keep me grounded. I'm inherently drawn to the diverse arts of the world
I find fulfillment in channeling my energy into activities that bring me peace and exercise my curiosity
Whether that’s exploring new places, hunting for unique items while thrifting, experimenting with new foods, or taking photographs
You'll often find me with a Taylor Swift song playing in my ears, a Sally Rooney novel in hand, and on my way to discover new pastries to
indulge in
PERSONAL HARDSHIPS
Anxiety was a constant companion throughout my teenage years, but my first
episode of depression emerged during my college years, triggered by physical
health issues and hormonal imbalances.
Depression significantly impacted all aspects of my life, including my studies,
social interactions, and self-esteem, leaving me feeling demotivated and lost.
I dedicated countless days to navigating through the shadows, seeking
understanding and healing, ultimately emerging with a deeper understanding of
myself and newfound resilience.
These experiences have not only shaped me but have also cultivated empathy
and compassion for others facing similar struggles.
They taught me the importance of embracing life's unpredictability, learning to
adapt.
As I progress in my academic journey, I carry these experiences, which have made
me more human, understanding, and prepared to face the challenges ahead.
Summer Camp Counselor English Tutor Babysitter Event Coordinator
My first job was as a summer camp counselor. Reflecting on this experience, I’ll highlight how working with children has been the
cornerstone of my professional growth
This dynamic environment never failed to strengthen my patience and humble me
These experiences nurtured adaptability, creativity, and empathy, essential attributes that have proved to be crucial in navigating my
various professional and educationala paths
My journey with children has not only shaped my approach to education but has also enriched my understanding of human connections
and the power of mentorship
MY EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH CHILDREN
MY LOVE FOR THE CULINARY ARTS
My journey into the culinary world began innocently enough, with me asking my
mom to help me make boxed cakes when I was a kid. It soon sparked a love
affair with baking that has only grown stronger over the years
I’ve always been curious to recreate desserts from all over the world. Lately,
I've been taking courses in Madrid to dive deeper into the science of the
process and learn different techniques
While I'll always have a soft spot for a classic chocolate chip cookie, my
proudest moment came last December when I nailed a traditional Spanish
roscon recipe
The best part of all this baking is always gathering my family around the table
to share my creations with them and hear their opnions and reviews
Looking ahead, I dream of formalizing my passion by working towards an official
certification from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France.
