TERRITORIES Most states where English is an official language are former territories of the British Empire. Originating from the United Kingdom, English has spread to all corners of the world. Because of England’s history of colonization, English has been introduced to every continent and the use of media and importance in business affairs has made it a primary language in many countries.

Whether it's the similarities between English and Dutch, or some other factor, the population of this region can speak English at near-native levels.
ORGANIZATIONS English is the sole official language of the Commonwealth of Nations and of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). However, it is also the single most popular second language. As a result, when native and non-native English speakers are combined, it is recognized as the single most widely-spoken global language.
In fact, English is recognized as an official language in a total of 67 different countries, as well as 27 non-sovereign entities.
