IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA

IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA WHAT ? Condition in which blood lacks adequate iron. Without iron body can't produce enough hemoglobin , a substance in red blood cells that enables red blood cells carry oxygen to the body's tissues

SIGN AND SYMPTOM Extreme fatigue Pale skin Weakness Shortness of breath Headache Dizziness Cold hands and feet Inflammation or soreness of your tongue

CAUSE AND RISK FACTOR Blood loss. A lack of iron in your diet. An inability to absorb iron . Pregnancy. Vegetarian Frequent blood donors.

HEALTH EDUCATION Encourage patient choose iron-rich foods : Beans Dark green leafy vegetables, such as spinach Dried fruit, such as raisins and apricots Eggs Iron-fortified cereals, breads Peas Red meat Seafood

HEALTH EDUCATION Choose foods containing vitamin C to enhance iron absorption : Broccoli Grapefruit Kiwi Leafy greens Mangoes Melons Oranges Peppers Strawberries Tomatoes

VITAMIN B12 DeFICIENCY ANEMIA

VITAMIN B12 DEFICIENCY ANEMIA WHAT? Condition in which the body has inadequate stores of vitamin B12. This vitamin is essential for many aspects of health, including the production of red blood cells .

SIGN AND SYMPTOM Chest pain or heart palpitations Confusion, memory loss Constipation Depression Fatigue or weakness Numbness or coldness of hands and feet Poor appetite Shortness of breath

CAUSE AND RISK FACTOR Being an older adult Tapeworm infestation Pernicious anemia Surgical removal of a portion of the small intestine    Vegans and strict vegetarians who do not eat meat, fish, eggs, or dairy products Pregnant or breast-feeding women who are vegans or strict vegetarians

HEALTH EDUCATION Eating a diet that includes a sufficient amount of vitamin B12. eg :

Taking vitamin B12 supplements as recommended if you are at high risk for developing vitamin B12 deficiency. Get a vitamin B12 injections can prevent you from anemia after surgeries known to cause vitamin B12 deficiency.

FOLIC ACID DEFICIENCY ANEMIA

FOLIC ACID DEFICIENCY ANEMIA WHAT? Folic acid deficiency anemia happens when your body does not get enough folic acid.Folic acid is one of the B vitamins, and it helps your body make new cells, including new red blood cells.

CAUSES AND RISK FACTOR Don't eat enough foods that contain folic acid. Greater need for folic acid. This might happen if you are pregnant or have some medical problems, such as sickle cell disease. pregnancy Sickle cell

CAUSES AND RISK FACTOR Body doesn't absorb enough folic acid. This might happen if you drink too much alcohol or have severe kidney problems that require blood-cleaning procedures. Take certain medicines, such as some used for cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and seizures.  rheumatoid arthritis

HEALTH EDUCATION Take folic acid pills each day to bring your folic acid level back up.

Take foods rich folic acid include fortified breads and cereals, citrus fruits, and dark green, leafy vegetables.
