Agenda Bifid epiglottis: syndromic constituent rather than isolated anomaly Hypoplastic epiglottis in a non-syndromic child Epiglottic aplasia PRESENTATION TITLE 2/11/20XX 2

PRESENTATION TITLE 2/11/20XX 3 Bifid epiglottis

Introduction Bifid epiglottis is a rare congenital defect that is often associated with other congenital anomalies. The most common defect associated with a bifid epiglottis are anomalies of the hands and/or feet (90%) while the most dangerous and potentially lethal anomaly if not recognized and treated are hypothalamic hamartomas and hypopituitarism (50% PRESENTATION TITLE 2/11/20XX 4

%). A bifid epiglottis will often result in severe respiratory distress secondary to laxity of the cartilage and chronic aspirations, which may require surgical intervention. We present the case of a 10-week-old child who was sent for evaluation of stridor and aspiration. Office laryngoscopy demonstrated a true bifid epiglottis and further evaluation demonstrated a hypothalamic hamartoma consistent with Pallister-Hall syndrome. Management of our case as well as those previously presented in the literature are reviewed . . PRESENTATION TITLE 2/11/20XX 5

Bifid epiglottis is is often associated with other anomalies, particularly polydactyly   No patient had bifid epiglottis as an isolated anomaly . Other malformations include clefts, micropenis , renal abnormalities, anal malformations, hypospadias , hypothalamic hamartomas, hypopituitarism, heart defects , and Hirschprung disease.  PRESENTATION TITLE 2/11/20XX 6

Hypoplastic epiglottis in a non-syndromic child Hypoplasia of the epiglottis is a rarely reported anomaly . These patients may have complex malformations or are totally asymptomatic . . The long-term evolution of hypoplasic epiglottis cases is also not known. The presentation and the evolution in cases of epiglottic anomalies vary a lot to deduce a trend. \Close specialized follow-up is needed to answer these questions and to optimize these patients' prognosis PRESENTATION TITLE 2/11/20XX 7

Epiglottic aplasia Congenital aplasia of the epiglottis is a rare condition with variable presentation ranging from respiratory distress requiring surgical airway to an asymptomatic finding. Epiglottic aplasia is presumed to be caused by arrest of development of laryngeal structures and is most commonly associated with syndromic conditions, though isolated episodes of aplasia of the epiglottis do exist.
