Anthracnose Or red leaf spot Of sorghum

Casual organism : Colletotrichum graminicola Symptoms :- Fungus cause leaf spot (anthracnose) & stalk rot (red rot) in sorghum. The centre of spot is white in colour encircled by red , purple,or brown margins. Small black lessons On white centre – “ acervuli ”. The infected stem when split opened ,it shows discolouration giving marble appearance. Development of circular cankers on stalk and inflorescence .

Disease cycle:- Primary infection :- Fungus present in seed,and Johnson grass,Sudan grass,maize,barley and wheat . Secondary infection:- Wind born conidia

Management:- Destruction of infected plant debris and collateral hosts Crop rotation with non –host crop Grow resistant varieties like SPV 162, CSV 17, rift Sudan. Treat the seeds with captain or thiram @ 3g/kg Spray the crop with Mancozeb @ 0.25% or carbendazim @0.1%
