APA Title Page & Header
What goes on the Title Page? Header with part of title in ALL CAPS and page number Title Name Affiliation
What does NOT go on Title Page? Not necessary for student papers – this is really only important for publication purposes Not part of APA (I know you are used to this from MLA) “Running head” Name of instructor and/or course
STEP #1: Start with page number FIRST Open a word document and select the insert tab SECOND G o to the “page number” drop down box and select “top of page,” LAST Select the first option, ‘Plain number 1’ which is a left justified page number
STEP #2: Part of title IN the header FIRST Put your cursor to the LEFT of the number, put CPAS LOCK on and type 40 characters of your title. NEXT Hit the Tab button (usually 2 times) to slide the page number to the far right side of the page.
Step #3: Change the font Select the entire header and change the font to Times New Roman 12
Step #4: Close the header It should look like this when you are done
Step #5: Add the title page info Hit ‘ENTER’ 2 times and type the title of your paper, your name, and your affiliation on 3 separate lines. Make sure this info is centered on the page
Step #6: Final checks! Be sure your font is correct (Times New Roman, 12 pt ) Spacing should be ‘double’ with no extra space between lines
