Introduction Honey bee: S. N.- Aphis spp . Family- Apidae Order – Hymenoptera Apiculture -The science of rearing honey bees or beekeeping for commercial production of honey and wax is known as apiculture. In addition to honey, other products like bees wax, pollen, royal jelly and bee venom. Beekeeping can be practiced as :An ideal hobby,Part-time business., Full-time business

History of bee keeping 1500 and 1851:- when many attempts were made to domesticate bees in different types of hives 1851:- Discovered movable frame hive by L. L. Langstroth in USA. 1882:- India first attempt to keep bees in movable frame hives (W.Bengal) 1883-84 :- in Punjab 1911-1917 :- Rev. Newton trained several beekeepers and deviseda hive for indigenous bee Apiscerana based on principle of bee space (which wasnamed after his name as “Newton hive”). 1917:-Beekeeping was also started in the Travancore state (now Cochin) 1925:-in Mysore In Himachal Pradesh modern beekeeping with indigenous honey bee A. cerana startedin 1934 at Kullu and in 1936 at Kangra .

1938-39:- All India Bee Keeping Association Formed. 1945:- ICAR established Central Beekeeping Research Station, Punjab 1956:- KVIC take task to distribute bee keeping The exotic bee A. mellifera was successfully introduced for the first time in India in1962 at NagrotaBagwan (then in Punjab state and now in Himachal Pradesh)
